As a die-hard Venom fan who’s been following this symbiotic saga since the comics, I must say that “Venom: The Last Dance” has left me with a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, it feels like a satisfying conclusion to Eddie Brock and Venom’s journey, but on the other, it seems to be setting up a whole new symbiote-filled universe.

With the release of “Venom: The Last Dance” this weekend, the Tom Hardy-led Marvel series from Sony has now reached its trilogy milestone. As suggested by the movie’s title, this third installment seems to imply that Eddie Brock and his Symbiote companion may have reached their final dance. With the film now available for audiences to watch, fans are left wondering if it indeed marks the end, or serves as a foundation for additional movies. So, does “The Last Dance” truly wrap things up neatly or set the stage for future films?

To clarify, Venom: The Last Dance doesn’t just focus on one aspect; it attempts to blend elements from both sides of the storyline.

In considering the conclusion of “Venom: The Last Dance”, there are two perspectives to consider. One is the narrative revolving around Eddie and Venom, while the other encompasses the larger tale of Symbiotes within Sony’s Marvel universe.

Given the immense success of the Venom films and Sony’s desire to retain control over their Marvel characters, it’s likely we’ll see more Venom movies in the future. However, it appears that Tom Hardy may not be part of that future for this franchise.

In the finale of “The Last Dance“, Venom parts ways with Eddie in a selfless act to protect Earth from the hounds of Knull. With Venom no longer bonded to him, Eddie manages to return to New York City. His name is cleared and he’s given an opportunity for a fresh start as an ordinary citizen. However, it’s evident that he yearns for his symbiotic friend.

In an unlikely scenario for a sequel, this particular Eddie has ceased his role as the Lethal Protector. On the other hand, the remaining Symbiotes are merely warming up to their exploits.

In the movie “The Last Dance”, we are introduced to the malevolent character named Knull, the inventor of Symbiotes. Knull is desperate to break free from the prison constructed by the Symbiotes, and the post-credits sequence suggests that he may indeed succeed in his escape. Notably, writer/director Kelly Marcel has hinted that Knull will not be confined to a single film, implying a larger role for this significant character in future installments.

Beyond Knull, several other Symbiote scenarios at the end of “The Last Dance” could potentially spark additional movies. Although almost every Symbiote confined in Area 51 is eliminated during the final battle, one manages to escape. Agony, another Symbiote, inhabits the body of scientist Dr. Payne, and there’s no sign that it departs from its new host when they flee Area 51. This means that a well-known Symbiote remains active in that universe.

Later on, after the credits roll, there’s a bonus scene. In this scene, the bartender from earlier in the movie exits an underground cave, managing to escape the wreckage of Area 51. As the dust settles, one of the containers holding the Symbiotes is visible. There’s a lingering trace of one of the Symbiotes inside that container, and as a cockroach scuttles near the shattered vessel, it starts to stir.

Although the specific Symbiote isn’t clearly shown inside the container, the presence of the bartender in the scene suggests strongly that it might have been a fragment of Venom, the Symbiote we are familiar with. A remnant of this Symbiote was initially found at the bar at the movie’s start, before being transported to Area 51 for study.

At present, Sony’s future with Marvel characters is quite flexible. It appears that Tom Hardy may not wish to reprise his role in another Venom film, yet Sony still has numerous avenues to continue developing the franchise.
