As a long-time Call of Duty fanatic with over two decades of gaming under my belt, let me tell you that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has truly outdone itself with its Zombies mode. I’ve been through every iteration since World at War and this one takes the cake! The death animations are a delightful surprise, making even the most gruesome endings feel like something out of Mortal Kombat.

Players of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 were already enamored with the game’s Zombies mode on its launch, and as time has passed, their affection for it has only grown. Although losing a run isn’t the best part of these Zombies encounters, players have come to appreciate that even in defeat, Black Ops 6 still delivers something worthwhile. In a surprising twist reminiscent of Mortal Kombat, Treyarch included some end-of-game death animations for Black Ops 6’s Zombies players, making the battles feel more like high-stakes martial arts showdowns than typical Call of Duty skirmishes.

In the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you can opt to leave a Zombies game if you choose, and this is often referred to as “exfiltrating” or “calling it quits.” This allows you to claim victory and receive a bonus. The process resembles an ordinary extraction mission where you summon aid and reach the evacuation point before being overrun, but in your initial stages of learning the two maps, you might find yourself losing once or twice during this extraction attempt. Interestingly, even if you fail, Black Ops 6 players have discovered that they are still rewarded with a captivating cinematic depicting the outcome of your evacuation team following an unsuccessful run by you.

In the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the death animation appears to be relatively mild compared to the one that has garnered attention since its launch. If you’ve been following this new Zombies mode before the release of Black Ops 6, you might have encountered a new monster known as the “Amalgam.” As the name suggests, this is a Zombie hybrid made up of multiple bodies and all their limbs. The Amalgams look more suited to the environment of Dead Space than Black Ops 6, and they seem to push the boundaries of the grotesque imagery we’ve seen in previous Zombies modes.

These creatures are ominously described as bulky masses of muscle and tissue, with several mouths from which deep growls emanate. It’s been observed that they can have up to ten arms and five legs, and they seem to possess the ability to regrow limbs that have been severed. Their primary strategy is to swallow their prey (or other zombies) by extending a group of limbs into a tentacle-like appendage to drag the victim towards a cavity resembling a gaping maw in their chest.

In the game Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, if a player unfortunately meets their demise at the hands of an Amalgam, that’s where they’ll be – inside the game’s universe. For those who’d rather observe the outcome instead of ending their Zombies round, players of Black Ops 6 offer a way to do just that.

The new death animation in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombie mode is quite gory and may not suit the faint-hearted. However, it brings a nostalgic feel to the game, resembling the older Zombies experiences where the mode was more intense. Alongside the increased difficulty in this version of Zombies and its round-based format, many players are praising it as a comeback for the franchise. The future support of this mode will determine its long-term success.
