The creators of Call the Midwife have shared a fresh photo for season 14, letting enthusiasts know that production on upcoming episodes is almost wrapped up.
This cherished period series is set to grace our holiday programming lineup once more in the current year. It’s quite possible that a special installment will debut on Christmas itself, followed by the beginning of its 14th season in the upcoming year.
Yesterday, Call the Midwife shared a fresh image, signaling that only a handful of shooting sessions remain before they conclude production. This marks the official start of the countdown until the series returns to our screens.
The photo from the set (above) shows stars Linda Bassett (Nurse Crane), Laura Main (Shelagh Turner) and Judy Parfitt (Sister Monica) filming a scene in a London church.
Nurse Crane is subtly indicating using her pinky, which leaves us wondering if she’s preparing to seal a “pinky pledge” – yet it remains unclear as to the nature of the commitment.
As we near the end of filming, there’s an exciting sense that we’re almost at the finish line. And the most thrilling part? Unveiling all the work we’ve put into this project for your viewing pleasure!
1970 finds us squarely in its place – the globe has undergone numerous transformations, yet the arrival of newborns persists, making the mission of Nonnatuns more relevant than ever.
2022 in Poplar, I’m here to guarantee you an emotional rollercoaster filled with laughter, tears, comfort, humor, and a touch of heartbreak – just like the essence of our beloved neighborhood. Cross my heart!
Call the Midwife consistently ranks as one of BBC’s top-viewed series, often leading the viewership during Christmas Day. Consequently, it has already been commissioned for a 15th season to premiere in 2026.
In the last episode, much discussion revolved around whether Nurse Trixie (Helen George) would depart from Poplar, given that she appeared ready to do so after a tumultuous season in her personal life and with her new spouse.
More recently, the actress shared that she had long-term intentions to reappear in a future season, and exhibited curiosity about the upcoming plotlines for her character.
George remarked with amusement: “Trixie is indeed making a unique comeback as she’s returning without her husband, which adds an intriguing turn of events.
Call the Midwife returns to BBC One and iPlayer this Christmas.
