As a dedicated Splatoon player who’s been squidding through these digital ink-soaked battlefields since the very beginning, I must say that the latest Splatfest event in Splatoon 3 was an absolute blast! The Halloween theme added a delightful touch to the competition, and as a lifelong fan of ninja movies, it’s safe to say Team Ninja had my vote. Big Man’s victory was well-deserved, and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.

During the weekend, the most recent Splatfest tournament took place in Splatoon 3. For this event, the game adopted a Halloween motif, allowing players to pick their fantasy persona: a sorcerer, a knight, or a ninja. The points have now been calculated, and Team Ninja emerged victorious with an impressive 500 points! This victory is another feather in Big Man’s cap, as he represented Team Ninja, while Shiver was the face of Team Wizard, and Frye stood for Team Knight.

Those who weren’t able to participate in Halloween celebrations this past weekend still have a chance to join the fun within Splatoon 3, as Nintendo has provided some complimentary in-game avatar options themed around the holiday. The offerings may seem reminiscent of real-life Halloween costumes. To obtain these free items, players should navigate to the “News” section on their Switch home menu and launch Splatoon 3 from the link provided there. From the lobby terminal, they will receive a Hockey Mask, Anglerfish Mask, Kyonshi Hat, and Li’l Devil Horns. These accessories were initially handed out during a Splatoween event in Splatoon 2 and are now accessible to all Splatoon 3 players. A visual representation of the free avatar items can be found below.

Currently, we’re unsure about when the next Splatfest will occur or what its theme might be. After the conclusion of the Grand Festival last month, Nintendo has hinted that content for Splatoon 3 is gradually slowing down. Unlike the original Splatoon, which was taken offline earlier this year, Splatoon 3 isn’t going away; players can continue to enjoy its single-player and multiplayer modes indefinitely. However, it seems that Nintendo might be directing their attention towards the future of the series. While no official announcements have been made yet, there’s a lot of buzz suggesting that Splatoon 4 could be in development for Nintendo’s upcoming console.

Title tentatively referred to as “Switch 2” doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it’s expected to be unveiled prior to March 31, 2025. If the new system indeed launches in the following year, it’s likely that Splatoon 4 won’t be far off. Given Splatoon’s significant impact on Nintendo, a fresh installment could boost Switch 2 sales in Japan where the franchise enjoys a dedicated fanbase. The success of Splatoon 2 contributed significantly to the current Switch console’s popularity, having been released only a few months after its launch. It’s plausible that this pattern may repeat with Splatoon 4. Furthermore, 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the series, suggesting Nintendo might plan special celebrations for the occasion. However, these are mostly assumptions, so fans should continue enjoying the current game until official announcements are made!
