As a long-time fan of The Simpsons and a die-hard NFL enthusiast, this upcoming Monday Night Football takeover by my beloved TV family is the cherry on top of an already fantastic season! I can’t help but feel like I’ve won the lottery twice – once for getting to watch my favorite football team (the Dallas Cowboys) and once more for seeing Homer Simpson live out his lifelong dream of owning them.

The Simpson family is getting ready to dominate Monday Night Football in collaboration with the NFL, and Homer’s dream of playing alongside the Dallas Cowboys is finally coming true. This year, The Simpsons will celebrate its 35th birthday with a bang! Apart from releasing an exclusive Christmas special on Disney+ this December, The Simpsons will also be partnering with the NFL for a unique twist on Monday Night Football called “Funday Football.” During the game, The Simpsons characters will engage live with the action using advanced technology.

Disney, ESPN, The Simpsons, and the National Football League have teamed up for a unique event: “The Simpsons Funday Football” will debut on Monday, December 9th. Utilizing Sony’s Beyond Sports Technology, this animated special will depict the Monday Night Football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Dallas Cowboys, which takes place inside Atoms Stadium in Springfield. This means that, at last, Homer Simpson will get to own the Dallas Cowboys, fulfilling a wish from one of the show’s most iconic episodes, “You Only Move Twice.

The Simpsons’ Monday Night Football Takeover

On December 9th, you can watch the regular Monday Night Football on ESPN, ABC, and ESPN Deportes, or tune into ESPN2 for Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli. However, starting at 8:00 PM EST on the same day, The Simpsons Funday Football will be available only on Disney+, ESPN+, and NFL+. In this animated event, Homer will represent the Dallas Cowboys, while Bart will play for the Cincinnati Bengals. The show promises to feature live play tracking and occasional interventions by Homer and Bart in the game itself. Other characters are also expected to be part of this unique experience.

During the live game, Marge and Lisa will converse with the players, while Maggie operates the SkyCam. Various cast members including Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, and Yeardley Smith will lend their voices to their characters in pre-prepared segments and skits scattered throughout the event. Additionally, there will be unique introductions and conclusions for the game, along with hints of additional animated scenes featuring several characters and players associated with the upcoming game. For enthusiasts craving a bit more of The Simpsons in their football experience, this is an excellent opportunity to immerse themselves further.

What Is Homer’s Greatest Dream?

Homer Simpson, a known football fan, is particularly fond of the Dallas Cowboys. Despite occasional fantasies where he becomes John Elway and wishes for the Cowboys to lose, it’s clear that deep down, he’s a Cowboys supporter. In the iconic Season 8 episode, “You Only Move Twice,” we learn that his ultimate dream is to actually own the Dallas Cowboys. However, as the story unfolds in this classic episode, Homer’s former boss and supervillain, Hank Scorpio, presents him with the Denver Broncos instead, leaving Homer disappointed.

In addition, he dons a hat autographed by legendary Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry throughout the show, emphasizing his devotion even more, and this detail adds to the humor of his character. Now, things have come full circle as he’ll be playing alongside the actual Dallas Cowboys in a real game, potentially winning with his cherished team before it ends. Tune into the upcoming The Simpsons Funday Football airing later this December on Disney+ to catch all the excitement!
