Clair Obscur’s remarkable journey, as depicted in Expedition 33, continues to gather momentum. Fresh findings suggest that the game earned more income during its second month of release compared to its initial one.
Based on information from Newzoo (via GamesIndustry.Biz), it’s not common for a premium game to perform in such a manner. However, this situation underscores the robustness of a top-notch game and the ongoing impact of positive word-of-mouth advertising.
The game Clair Obscur: Expedition, which was ranked 13th based on revenue in the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy during its initial release in April 2025, moved up to 8th place in these same regions by May 2025.
Compared to DOOM: The Dark Ages, it earned a higher income, even though it was priced $20 lower. It would have needed to sell significantly more units to match the sales of Bethesda’s FPS, yet it still surpassed it in terms of revenue, given that it had been available for two months longer and DOOM was the sensation of May.
It seems that Newzoo incorporates Xbox Game Pass revenue in their charts, but since Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is part of the service, this doesn’t significantly impact our discussion. We’ve already established that the game has sold 3.3 million copies by May 27th, indicating substantial success for Sandfall Interactive.
Expedition 33 has been overwhelmingly popular and has earned the top spot as the best PS5 game of 2025 thus far, based on our latest poll. It’s clearly setting the pace over any other game currently available. With half a year still to go, it looks like a strong candidate for Game of the Year when we reach December.
