As a longtime comic book enthusiast who’s spent countless hours poring over the pages of Marvel Universe tales, I can confidently say that this week’s Deadpool Team-Up #3 is a triumph for fans of action, humor, and nostalgia. The fight between Wolverine, Deadpool, and the Hulk has been teased for ages, and it didn’t disappoint.
Deadpool and Wolverine made an appearance in the Marvel Universe, hinting at a potential battle between Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). However, the brief scene, which was a nod to Todd McFarlane’s famous cover of The Incredible Hulk #340 from 1987, ended before Deadpool and Wolverine could actually fight against the enraged Avenger. This anticipated clash was eventually depicted in issue #3 of Rob Liefeld’s latest Deadpool comic, Deadpool Team-Up.
The circumstances are similar. But instead of the Void, Deadpool and Wolverine end up in Weirdworld, a domain composed of former magical realms. After a ninja clan tasked Wade Wilson with — deep breath — collecting dragon eggs that have been hidden by Ral Dorn, Dragon Lord, Wade learned that the warlord Baron Skagerackrakor stole Ral’s sacred staff so he could overthrow Ral as the rightful ruler of his home dimension of Rammatpolen and take revenge for his father’s defeat at Ral’s hands (in 1981’s Fantastic Four Annual #16).

In this comic book adventure, Ral retrieved his Dragonstaff and created a gateway to the strange realm of Weirdworld. There, they encountered an old hero from the ’80s named Crystar, Master of Crystalium, who had concealed dragon eggs deep within the catacombs beneath Crater Lake on Weirdworld. As they navigated the marshes, they were ambushed by a monstrous Swamp Serpent. To combat this beast, Ral invoked the power of Rammatpolen to open another portal and summon aid: “A wild dragon to vanquish this serpent.
In this scenario, the colossal Hulk brushes Wolverine aside, however, the agile and swift X-Man is just as small compared to the gigantic and sluggish Hulk. To stop the rampaging Hulk from causing further damage, Wade aims a shot at Hulk’s face. Unfortunately, Hulk manages to grab Wade and hurls him forcefully onto the ground. With the Swamp Serpent defeated, Ral no longer needs the Green Warrior and concludes the fight by sending the Hulk back to his Earthly realm. As they search for the eggs, the story ends with Wade holding a golden sword: the Dragonslayer.
At that moment, three characters created by Rob Liefeld emerged from the darkness to caution against capturing the dragon eggs, stating it would mean “the demise of all”: Cable, an alternate version of Deadpool, and Major X, a son born to Cable and Storm from another reality. The ongoing series Deadpool Team-Up will come to a close with its fifth and final issue on January 22nd.
