"Grate Cheese Robbery": Cops Search for Stolen Cheddar Worth $390,000

As a dedicated cheese enthusiast with a penchant for all things artisanal and a soft spot for Neal’s Yard Dairy, this news has left me reeking of disbelief! I’ve spent countless hours savoring their delectable creations, and now, it seems that the world’s best cheddar has been swiped like a slice of Camembert in a crowded market.

Now this is one un-brie-lievable heist.

Neal’s Yard Dairy, a London-based artisanal cheese firm, stated they experienced a substantial financial setback when a supposed wholesale distributor for a large French retailer fraudulently obtained $390,000 worth of cheddar from them.

In a post on Instagram dated October 25th, Neal’s Yard Dairy announced that they had suffered a theft, resulting in the loss of more than 22 metric tons of their famous clothbound Cheddar cheese.

Approximately 950 wheels of Hafod, Westcombe, and Pitchfork Cheddar had been shipped out prior to the discovery of the fraud, it was revealed. At present, we are collaborating with the relevant law enforcement agencies in an effort to unmask those responsible for this deception.

Neal’s Yard Dairy advises anyone who receives cheese that they suspect could be linked to the theft, specifically clothbound Cheddars in sizes of either 10 kilograms or 24 kilograms with missing tags, to immediately contact the company so the police can further investigate this case.

It’s no secret that the so-called cheese heist, affectionately known online as the “Great Cheese Robbery,” has caused quite a stir among food enthusiasts. Notably, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver contends that the absence of this special cheddar will create a noticeable void in the artisan cheese market.

The theft of Cheddar impacts Neal’s Yard Dairy’s exports to 20 countries, a warning was posted on Instagram. Be cautious when encountering unusually large amounts of premium Cheddar in the underground market. A reminder: if an offer appears excessively delicious or too good to be true, it likely is!

In an accompanying video, Oliver called the cheddar that was stolen the “best cheese in the world.”

“Real shame,” he added. “It seems like a really weird thing to nick.”
