As a seasoned observer of celebrity culture and a self-proclaimed Halloween enthusiast, I must say that this year’s costumes from the stars have been nothing short of enchanting!
What, like having the perfect Halloween costume is hard?
Today’s Savannah Guthrie didn’t quite emulate Reese Witherspoon’s Elle Woods from “Legally Blonde” in her outfit today. She donned a convincing replica of the character, featuring a wig that mimicked Elle’s blonde hair, a leather pink mini-skirt and jacket set, a plush Bruiser dog prop, and the crowning glory – Luke Wilson himself made an appearance.
In the movie, it’s true that Luke took on the role of Elle’s future husband, Emmett Richmond. This is the character Elle ends up marrying in the sequel titled Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.
On this extraordinary day, Luke was spotted strolling hand-in-hand with Savannah, both dressed as Elle. Notably, he donned a stylish navy suit reminiscent of Emmett, complete with a red and gray tie. The pair shared a warm embrace and friendly slap on the back after showcasing their stunning outfits to the crowd in today’s square.
Simultaneously, the other Today co-hosts didn’t shy away from their vibrant holiday attire. Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager donned a shared costume, impersonating Jack and Rose from Titanic. Carson Daly and Sheinelle Jones also coordinated – dressing up as Austin Powers and Foxxy Cleopatra from the 1997 movie.
This year’s costumes were outstanding to the point of being spooky, and the NBC morning show is well-known for going above and beyond during their annual festivities.
Previously, Savannah adopted a style reminiscent of another influential blonde, emulating one of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour outfits, complete with a bedazzled microphone replica. On the other hand, this year, Savannah’s coworker, Willie Geist, transformed into another popular character from the film ‘Anchorman’, Ron Burgundy. Interestingly, he chose to dress up as one of Taylor Swift’s former boyfriends, Harry Styles.
Since Hoda has announced her upcoming retirement, her Jack costume will be the last one for this renowned journalist. However, she has a wealth of costumes to reminisce about from years past. Last year, she and Jenna donned the outfits of Sonny and Cher. Interestingly, Jenna even sported Cher’s famous mustache. A year earlier, Hoda partnered with Savannah to dress as Cirque du Soleil performers. The pair also showcased their forward-thinking spirit in 2020, when they portrayed Elphaba and Glinda from the musical “Wicked.
Absolutely, Hoda often collaborated with her former co-anchor on the Today show, Kathie Lee Gifford, who left in 2019. While they were co-hosting the fourth hour, they dressed up as iconic duos like Wilma Flinstone and Betty Rubble from The Flintstones, The Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood, and a somewhat unnerving Snoopy and Woodstock. Interestingly, Hoda has mentioned that she wouldn’t reprise the Snoopy and Woodstock costume again.
On an episode of “Watch What Happens Live” in July, Hoda candidly admitted that the 2015 costumes were truly the worst they had ever created, prompting her to cover her face in shock at the sight of them.
Savannah—who went as Sally Brown to go along with Today’s Peanuts theme—agreed, adding, “Terrible.”
Of course, Hoda and the other co-anchors on Today have certainly taken the lesson to heart and have been donning fantastic outfits ever since.
