As a seasoned journalist with over three decades of experience covering US elections, I can confidently say that this year’s presidential election is one for the history books. With two unpredictable candidates and the stakes higher than ever, it’s a must-watch event for anyone who cares about global politics.
Add America Decides: US Presidential Election to your watchlist
Why should Brits stay up to watch the US election?
The situation we find ourselves in carries immense importance, as there are two significant conflicts ongoing – one in Europe and another in the Middle East. The United States’ involvement in both is crucial. Many believed that the American experiment with Trump had reached its end, but clearly, this wasn’t the case. With Kamala Harris now assuming leadership from Joe Biden, it seems that the election was not what we initially anticipated.
Is America prepared for either outcome?
Neither candidate can easily be anticipated due to their unforeseen natures. Trump’s presidency this term won’t resemble his previous one, as he’s undergone changes. On the other hand, Harris is still unfamiliar to many, making it challenging for people to predict her actions and behavior in office.
One of your guests on election night is Boris Johnson. Why?
Boris Johnson appears to be the perfect fit as our guest. It’s evident from his recent book tour promotions that he harbors ambitions of returning to the spotlight. He seems to be studying Trump’s methods. However, let’s make it clear that this is not an event solely dedicated to Boris Johnson. He will join us for a discussion, we’ll interact, and then we’ll proceed with other matters.
You’ve also got former adult film star Stormy Daniels, who was at the centre of Trump’s hush-money trial, and TV personality Caitlyn Jenner. Are these stunt bookings?
Absolutely not. However, they play a crucial role in the narrative that explains America’s current state. Daniels and Jenner are instrumental in shedding light on the reasons behind America’s deep polarization.
How can we make sure the audience doesn’t forget about the significance of a Kamala Harris win, given that Donald Trump often steals the spotlight in media coverage?
Avoiding that pitfall is quite tough. If Harris emerges victorious, it’s not just about Trump losing – it’s about the historic election of our nation’s first female president who also happens to have African and Asian heritage. Her rise to power is a remarkable tale of American success.
With so many people claiming this is one of the tightest U.S. elections, would you be willing to take a risk and forecast who will win?
Since 1992, I’ve been closely following the U.S. elections, but in this particular contest, I must admit that predicting the outcome feels more challenging than ever before. It seems like guessing the outcome is akin to betting on a horse race where everyone has an equal chance of winning – it’s as unpredictable as they come!
What’s your secret for getting through a night of live TV?
I don’t heavily depend on food due to its effect of causing energy fluctuations. For the UK election, which was my longest show at over 11 hours, I only had a small chocolate break midway through. Green tea sustained me throughout. My usual lifestyle choice is intermittent fasting.
