Call the Midwife confirms surprise double Christmas episode in first look

As someone who has grown up with Call the Midwife being a constant presence in my family’s living room during Christmases, this news of a two-part special is like finding an extra, unexpected present under the Christmas tree! I can hardly contain my excitement.

For the very first time, viewers of Call the Midwife are excited about a two-part holiday special that will air before the show returns with fresh episodes in the coming year.

Instead of the usual 90-minute segments, the BBC has announced that there will be two 60-minute episodes, complete with a suspenseful holiday twist at the end.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my joy when I stumble upon an unforeseen gift hidden beneath the Christmas tree, just like Heidi Thomas OBE so eloquently put it.

“When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas special for 2024, I couldn’t resist!”

Dame Pippa Harris commented: “This holiday season, audiences get a unique, two-part indulgence! Heidi has crafted an enchanting spectacle that I’m confident will captivate our devoted viewers.

All favorite characters are set to return for the upcoming two-part episode, resuming the storyline during Christmas in 1969.

As a devoted cinephile, I find myself captivated by the bustling scene at the midwives’ station. They’re deeply engrossed in their most cherished and dedicated work – delivering new lives into this world. Meanwhile, Poplar is transformed with the arrival of a vibrant funfair, injecting a burst of color and excitement into the otherwise frosty landscape.

However, we’ll encounter hurdles such as the influenza epidemic and the Hong Kong flu outbreak, in addition to a potential escapee on the loose.

In anticipation of the neighborhood’s carol concert, concerns are mounting that an individual suspected in recent burglaries might be lurking nearby.

Meanwhile, Trixie briefly drops by Nonnatus House and is thrilled to see her brother Geoffrey. Additionally, Miss Higgins has her grandson Harry spend Christmas with her.

Apart from Violet managing a mince pie contest, the Buckles’ plans for Reggie’s return get disrupted.

Production for Season 14 is moving smoothly, and we can expect eight fresh episodes to air in the year 2025. Moreover, it’s been officially announced that there will be a Season 15 as well, ensuring that Call the Midwife continues on our screens till at least 2026.

Glad Tidings, indeed.
