New Gundam Seed Anime ConfirmedNew Gundam Seed Anime Confirmed

As a gamer with over two decades of anime fandom under my belt, I can confidently say that the news about the return to the Gundam Seed universe has me absolutely thrilled! Ever since I first witnessed the clash between Naturals and Coordinators in the Cosmic Era, I’ve been hooked. The announcement of Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom Zero sends me back to the nostalgic days of watching the original Seed series and Destiny on VHS tapes (yes, I’m that old!).

In exciting news for Gundam fans, the Gundam franchise has revealed that Bandai Namco intends to launch multiple projects as tribute to the iconic series on the occasion of its 45th anniversary and beyond. Immediately following this announcement, Bandai Namco Filmworks has disclosed their intention to revisit one of their most beloved universes. Given that Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom is the franchise’s most popular and successful film, it has been confirmed that a fresh project is underway to re-immerse us in this narrative. The storyline for this new project could take fans by surprise due to its unique twists and settings.

If you’re looking for a recap on the Gundam Seed series, let me fill you in! It all started as a TV show back in 2002. The original run consisted of fifty episodes, and due to its popularity, a sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, was produced in record time in 2004. Just like the first, this sequel also had fifty episodes. This paved the way for the recent movie, Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom. Unlike previous series that focused on the Earth Federation versus the Principality of Zeon, Seed introduced a fresh narrative set in the “Cosmic Era.” On one side are humans who live on Earth, known as “Naturals,” while on the other are genetically enhanced beings called “Coordinators.” With Gundams entering this mix, Seed has become a fan favorite in the Gundam universe.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom Zero is Coming

In a recent update on social media, the Gundam series announced they’re developing a new anime titled “Mobile Suit Gundam: Seed Freedom Zero“. Though the launch date hasn’t been set yet, it’s confirmed that Mitsuo Fukuda is back in the director’s chair. One of the biggest twists is that not only does this project predate the events of “Seed Freedom“, but its script was penned two decades ago! It seems like this production has been carefully planned for quite a while.

Given the substantial earnings Gundam Seed Freedom accumulated during its cinema release, it’s hardly unexpected news for anime enthusiasts. The Cosmic Era, being a high-profile entry in the mecha genre, could potentially spark more anime productions aimed at honoring and expanding this series as a whole.

Gundam’s Bright Future

In simpler terms, it’s not just the Cosmic Era where we might encounter Gundams in the future; recent announcements confirm that a live-action Gundam movie is still being developed by Netflix, albeit with a new director at the helm. Initially, Jordan Vogt Roberts was set to direct, but now Jim Mickle will be taking over. If you’re not familiar with Mickle, he’s known for horror movies such as ‘Stake Land’ and ‘We Are What We Are’. Interestingly, the new Gundam director has collaborated directly with Netflix due to the series ‘Sweet Tooth’. As of now, there’s no set release date for this live-action adaptation.

As an enthusiastic fan, I’ve been captivated by the latest addition to Netflix’s anime lineup – “Gundam: Requiem For Vengeance.” This thrilling series employs CG animation to weave a fresh tale set in the original universe that sparked it all. The narrative primarily revolves around protagonists who rally for Zeon, and surprisingly, Amuro, a familiar character, is portrayed as a chilling adversary. The show’s eerie atmosphere almost transforms it into a suspenseful horror series.
