Forgotten Elder Scrolls Game About to Disappear CompletelyForgotten Elder Scrolls Game About to Disappear Completely

As a long-time Elder Scrolls fan who’s traversed the lands of Morrowind, braved Oblivion, and slayed dragons in Skyrim, it’s always bittersweet to see a piece of our beloved series fade away. The announcement that The Elder Scrolls: Legends will be shutting down next year is one such instance.

A lesser-known Elder Scrolls game, which many fans might have forgotten, is soon disappearing from the gaming world. Although titles like “The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind,” “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion,” and “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” are undoubtedly the most renowned in the series, Bethesda has produced several spin-offs over the years. The latest addition to this category, “The Elder Scrolls: Castles,” was released earlier in 2024 and followed games such as “The Elder Scrolls: Blades” and “The Elder Scrolls Online.” However, Bethesda is preparing to close down one of their spin-off games from this group in a matter of months.

If you haven’t yet determined which Elder Scrolls game is being phased out, it’s “The Elder Scrolls: Legends”. Launched in 2017, “Legends” was a card game spin-off within the Elder Scrolls series that gained popularity following the massive success of “Hearthstone”. Generally speaking, “The Elder Scrolls: Legends” was positively received by those who played it. However, it didn’t attract a substantial enough player base, causing Bethesda to discontinue support for the game in 2019.

Although The Elder Scrolls: Legends hasn’t had a new update for five years, it has remained playable for those interested in exploring it. However, instead of maintaining the game in its current state, Bethesda has decided to close down the servers for Legends at the end of January 2025. This decision also includes removing Legends from Steam, meaning that individuals who don’t already own it won’t be able to purchase or download it anymore.

Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls: Legends game servers will close permanently on January 30, 2025. Until this date, all items in the store and entry into in-game events can be purchased for one gold each, giving you a chance to experience everything the game has to offer before it becomes unplayable. After January 30, 2025, the servers will shut down, making the game inaccessible. Thank you for playing, and we hope you had a great time exploring The Elder Scrolls: Legends.

It’s disheartening to witness the closure of The Elder Scrolls: Legends, but I can’t help but understand Bethesda’s decision. With no further content on the horizon and hardly any players remaining, keeping the servers active is essentially a money-draining endeavor for them. However, if you find yourself disappointed by this move to retire Legends, there’s still a few months left to enjoy the game before it fades away.
