Strictly Come Dancing confirms Amy Dowden won’t return to dance competition in 2024

As a follower of Strictly Come Dancing, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing that Amy Dowden won’t be returning to the competition this year. Her courage and resilience have been an inspiration throughout her journey, especially after battling breast cancer last season.

This year, Amy Dowden won’t be back on the dance floor for Strictly Come Dancing as she took a break from the competition last month.

This year, after receiving treatment for breast cancer (a situation that kept her away from the 2023 event), the skilled dancer came back to compete again.

During the course of the show, Dowden had been teamed up with JLS member JB Gill. However, an injury sustained on Halloween Week (October 26th, 2024) necessitated a hospital visit for her, which in turn prevented her from participating in last Saturday’s performance.

JB danced his couple’s choice dance to a medley of Bruno Mars tracks alongside Amy’s colleague Lauren Oakley, with Dowden watching from the audience and cheering the pair on, even being reduced to tears by the performance after JB scored 39 points.

On “Strictly It Takes Two” airing on the 4th of November 2024, it’s official that Amy won’t be dancing on the show this season.

It was shared by a representative from Strictly Come Dancing that unfortunately, Amy Dowden MBE won’t be continuing in this year’s competition.

While Amy is concentrating on healing from a foot injury, dance partner for JB will temporarily be Lauren Oakley as she recovers.

“The health and wellbeing of everyone involved in Strictly are always the utmost priority. The whole Strictly family sends Amy love and well wishes.”

Previously, Oakley expressed her feelings towards Amy’s departure last week on Instagram with the following message: “Sending you an abundance of love and well-wishes, @amy_dowden.

I’m eagerly waiting for your return to the dance floor! In the meantime, I’ll be taking care of @jbgill for you this week. I truly hope our actions will make you proud.

After returning to the dance floor for the first time following her break, Dowden received a spontaneous applause from the audience.

Shirley Ballas, the main judge, commented on Amy saying, ‘You’ve found your right place here, and let me tell you, that dance routine was simply exceptional.’

We look forward to seeing Amy back on the show dancing again soon.
