As a passionate fan of both Arcane and League of Legends, I eagerly anticipate the future storytelling that Riot Games has planned for us. The whimsical aspect of Runeterra, as hinted by Christian Linke, particularly intrigues me. Having grown up with tales of Teemo, Tristana, Lulu, and their fellow Yordles from Bandle City, I can’t wait to see a more playful side of Runeterra unfold on the screen.
The creative mind behind Netflix’s “Arcane” series has shared insights into parts of the “League of Legends” universe he’d like to delve deeper into in future endeavors. Instead of prolonging “Arcane” for numerous seasons, Riot Games surprised fans earlier in 2024 by revealing that Season 2 would be its last. Rather than solely concentrating on “Arcane,” the team behind the show mentioned they would concentrate on narrating stories of other “League of Legends” characters through shows and films being developed with animation studio Fortiche. Although specifics about these upcoming projects are yet to be revealed, we now understand one of the lead creators’ potential future plans for “Arcane.
In an interview with ComicBook before the release of Arcane Season 2, Christian Linke (one of the co-creators) was asked about parts of the League of Legends universe he’d like to delve deeper into in future shows and films. Linke mentioned that Riot Games currently has a variety of concepts underway within the Runeterra region, which serves as the setting for League of Legends. While Riot is working on diverse ideas across Runeterra, Linke personally feels that more attention should be given to the “fantastical” elements of Runeterra, as he believes these aspects have not been fully exploited in the past.

Link mentioned that they’re developing several fresh Fallout narratives. The aim is to explore various settings and characters, each with their unique tones. Some tales will have a lighter, whimsical feel, while others will delve into serious and dark themes. ‘Arcane’ is simply the beginning of a much larger vision for storytelling in this universe.
He went on to say, “From my perspective, we could expand the narrative side of our intellectual property by delving deeper into its whimsical aspects. To be clear, I’m eager to take it a step further in this realm. While we have many projects under consideration, I feel that we haven’t fully satisfied our audience with these types of stories yet. I’m really looking forward to creating more in this style.
Based on these remarks, it appears that Linke is likely referring to “whimsical” as Bandle City. This part of Runeterra is characterized by the Yordles, a species featuring characters such as Teemo, Tristana, Lulu, Corki, and Rumble from League of Legends. Compared to other regions like Bilgewater, Ionia, and the Shadow Isles, Bandle City stands out for its more light-hearted and playful nature. While Linke’s statement doesn’t guarantee that Bandle City will be the subject of what follows Arcane, it’s reasonable to infer that he could have ideas brewing for a story involving the Yordles.
At present, we’re still unsure about Riot’s future plans in television and cinema. However, the much-anticipated series “Arcane” is all set to resume on Netflix starting from November 9th, releasing its first three episodes. The subsequent three episodes of Season 2 will be available on November 16th, leading up to the final episodes that will be released on November 23rd, concluding the series.
