Rumors are swirling that another PS5 PlayStation console exclusive is making its way across to Xbox Series X|S

What you need to know

  • A new rumor is circulating that PS5 console exclusive Zenless Zone Zero may be about to launch on Xbox.
  • The rumor comes from a proven source on the Zenless Zone Zero leaks subreddit, and suggests that the Xbox version will launch with the 1.4 update of the game.
  • 1.4 is slated for an early December 2024 launch, which has led to speculation that Zenless Zone Zero for Xbox could be announced at Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism about the latest rumors surrounding Zenless Zone Zero potentially landing on Xbox. Having witnessed the unexpected arrival of Genshin Impact on the platform earlier this year, I can’t help but wonder if Microsoft is making a concerted effort to beef up their offerings in the gatcha genre.

Another PlayStation 5 console exclusive may be slated for Xbox, according to the latest rumors.

Previously this past summer, the world-renowned game Genshin Impact was unveiled for Xbox consoles, marking a significant addition to the Xbox game library within its genre. In recent times, catch-up games have been scarcely seen on Xbox platforms. However, with the introduction of Genshin Impact and another forthcoming Xbox title, it seems that this trend could soon be reversed.

According to recent whispers, it’s possible that HoYoverse’s post-apocalyptic action RPG, Zenless Zone Zero, might soon become a PS5 exclusive, making its way over from other consoles. The leaker “Flying Flame”, known for their insights into Zenless Zone Zero, has hinted at a release date of December 18, which aligns with the game’s Patch 1.4 update.

Zenless Zone Zero is primarily a game that centers around collecting characters and completing daily tasks for in-game currency, which can be used to draw new characters. You also have the option to purchase premium currency and take chances on your draws to secure additional characters and other rewards. These games are often free to play and have an aesthetic resembling anime art.

Zenless Zone Zero is primarily a fast-paced action game where players brawl their way through levels as characters, but it also offers a rich and immersive narrative. The story unfolds in the fictional city of New Eridu, which remains one of the last safe havens on Earth after interdimensional zones called Hollows have devastated the world. The protagonists are referred to as Proxies, while characters you gather through the story or gacha draws are known as Agents. These characters team up to battle against the game’s main antagonist – interdimensional entities called Ethereals.

Is Zenless Zone Zero really coming to Xbox?

It’s quite possible that Zenless Zone Zero will be released on Xbox at some stage in the future, even if the current rumors don’t prove accurate. It was speculated that Sony’s PlayStation division had secured exclusivity deals for both Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai Star Rail, but it remains uncertain whether these agreements would prevent this latest rumor from materializing.

In a noteworthy collaboration, Microsoft and HoYoverse have sealed a substantial agreement regarding the popular game “Genshin Impact.” This partnership has resulted in the advertisement of the game on billboards situated in Times Square, New York City. Furthermore, as part of this deal, Genshin Impact will be accessible to Xbox Game Pass subscribers, granting them additional perks for gameplay.

In a piece penned a few months back, I discussed how Xbox might have erred by not securing Genshin Impact in the past. Although better late than never, it appears that HoYoverse is now extending more assistance to Xbox, joining companies such as Sega and Square Enix in this endeavor. We’ve attempted to get a statement from HoYoverse, but if this turns out to be accurate, we may learn more details around December 2024, potentially during The Game Awards.
