Glastonbury 2025 confirms major controversial change to ticket booking process

As a seasoned Glastonbury festival-goer with numerous years under my belt, I must say that the change in the ticket-buying system for 2025 has left me somewhat divided. On one hand, the idea of a fairer and more organized process is appealing, especially after the chaos that often ensues during ticket sales. However, as someone who’s spent countless hours refreshing pages, strategizing, and hustling to secure tickets in past years, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia for those good old days of persistence rewarded.

Glastonbury Festival has announced a major change to the ticket-buying system for 2025.

Rather than needing to repeatedly reload the webpage for a chance to purchase tickets to the iconic festival happening at Worthy Farm from 25th to 29th June, enthusiasts will now be part of a digital line-up instead.

However, even though the change aims to ensure a more equitable ticket purchasing experience for festival enthusiasts, not everyone is content with this choice.

On the Glastonbury website, they shared that the actual booking process for 2025 will resemble past years. But, they’re switching up how you access this process to join.

Instead of repeatedly reloading the Glastonbury tickets page at the scheduled time, this year, when ticket sales commence (either at 6pm or 9am), I’ll ensure I’m already on the glastonbury.seetickets.com page. As luck would have it, everyone present will be given a fair chance to join a random queue, ensuring a smooth entry into the booking process.

The statement emphasizes that if you log in after the sale begins, you’ll be placed at the end of the line. Therefore, it’s crucial to ensure your system is prepared a few minutes prior to the sale starting.

When folks join the line, a progress bar will show them how near they are to accessing the booking page.

During the event, they reminded participants: “Avoid refreshing the page, using multiple devices or tabs, or else you might lose your spot in line.

When you reach the head of the line, things go back to usual. At this point, festival-goers can input their registration numbers and postal codes – not just for themselves but also for up to five other individuals.

10 minutes is allotted for ticket purchasers to finalize their bookings, after which they will be automatically logged out of the session.

After that, they’ll need to verify the names of those they’re reserving tickets for, since changes can’t be made to these names after the booking process is initiated.

After purchasing their tickets, individuals will subsequently be directed to a payment confirmation page. Here, they’ll need to provide their billing address, enter their payment details, and agree to the terms and conditions.

Tickets will not be allocated until payment has been processed.

After the announcement made today (November 5th), many fans took to social media platforms to share their disappointment about the news.

Regrettable choice! The past ticket sale seemed to favor the persistent. See what transpired with Oasis and queues. I sincerely hope this won’t lead to a watered-down audience. Could we reconsider this decision, please? @Glastonbury @EmilyEavis @Seetickets

One fan wrote on Twitter, which was recently rebranded as X: “Its a shame imo, even if it was always sort of flawed. I liked that persistence was rewarded even if it was luck still.

For those merely curious about the latest happenings, who weren’t previously interested enough to engage, now might be their time. The likelihood of such occurrence in the past was minimal.

An additional comment reads, “This is a terrible choice. The earlier ticket sale was fair to those who were persistent. Remember the situation with Oasis and the line? I really don’t want this to make the crowd less exclusive. Could we reconsider this decision?

In my perspective, not everyone viewed this move negatively. One account I follow expressed their viewpoint as: “Any change that promotes fairness must surely be for the better.

2025’s Glastonbury tickets and coach travel will become available for purchase starting on the 14th of November, at 6pm sharp. Meanwhile, standard tickets will be up for grabs from 9am on Sunday, the 17th of November.

You must be registered to buy a ticket. The registration deadline is 11th November at 5pm.
