As a gamer putting on the cape and embodying Superman, I can’t stress enough that capturing the essence of this iconic character was my top priority. This character, with roots tracing back to Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1939, has stood the test of time due to his enduring qualities. In my creative process, it wasn’t about preserving every detail from the past, but rather allowing this character to evolve naturally as he embarks on his journey.

In contrast to his DC Universe counterpart in Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora’s “Superman” comics, this version of the Man of Steel doesn’t have a family, a Fortress of Solitude, or a home. Yet, will he continue to uphold truth and justice in this alternate universe? This is a question that Aaron, known for his Eisner Award-winning works like “Southern Bastards” at Image and “Thor” and “Doctor Strange” at Marvel, will address as he reimagines Superman’s origin story across the initial story arc.

Aaron stated that he’s made numerous alterations to the story of Krypton, particularly concerning his origin planet, his family, his life on Krypton, his journey to Earth, and the events following his arrival on Earth. This revision also encompasses his connections to Smallville, Kansas, and his bond with the Kents, who are typically depicted as Kal-El’s adoptive parents upon the Last Son of Krypton’s arrival on Earth as an infant via a rocket ship.

Aaron pointed out that everything about it has been altered, adjusted, but in a manner that seamlessly paints one consistent narrative. He emphasized that the primary focus remains the same – portraying the essence of this character, his reasons for fighting, his driving forces, and what sets him apart.

Aaron cautioned against jumping to conclusions about the character’s development, stating that he is far from being fully formed as Superman. He described this as an evolving journey that will be unveiled throughout the new series. Expect unexpected revelations concerning his origin story and early days on Earth, details you’ll discover in the comic book Absolute Superman.

In the primary DC Universe (DCU), Superman is portrayed as a family man, being married to Lois Lane, but the revised DCAU presents a self-reliant Superman with stronger solar abilities and a clearer emphasis on his alien nature.

Aaron pointed out one key distinction between the Absolute Universe and the mainstream DC Universe: in this world, the characters often seen as part of a large family aren’t connected in the same way. For instance, Superman, who is usually surrounded by his family, stands alone here. He is the Last Son of Krypton, the only one remembering his planet and culture, and he doesn’t have any companions or allies.

In this universe fueled by Darkseid’s power, “We’re crafting tales where these characters exhibit a grittier edge, placing them in peril they can’t typically encounter within the DC Universe,” Aaron explained. “This approach should provide you with two distinct interpretations of the DC Universe.
