Nintendo Switch Successor Will be Backward Compatible, Nintendo Switch Online Will Be Supported

As a long-time Nintendo enthusiast who’s witnessed the evolution of their consoles since the days of the NES, this news about backward compatibility with the upcoming console has left me absolutely giddy! The thought of being able to play my favorite Switch games on the next-gen system is a dream come true.

It’s been consistently suggested by leaks that Nintendo’s new-generation console will play games from the Nintendo Switch library, and this claim has now been made official.

At a recent corporate management policy briefing, Nintendo shared that the upcoming successor to the Nintendo Switch will be compatible with games designed for the existing Switch console, as confirmed by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa in a Twitter statement.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m excitedly waiting for more insights on our next-gen Nintendo Switch successor and how its backward compatibility will shape up. The big reveal, including all the juicy details, is something we’ll hear about later down the line. It’s been confirmed that this console will make its grand entrance before April 2025. So, fellow gamers, let’s keep our eyes peeled and fingers crossed!

The Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, has sold 146.04 million units worldwide as of September 30.
