Common Was Told to Avoid the Silo Books While Prepping for His Role

As a dedicated fan who’s been following the captivating world of Silo since its inception, I must say that I am both intrigued and exhilarated by the upcoming Season 2. The unique blend of fidelity to the source material while simultaneously offering unexpected twists has kept me on my toes.

The upcoming second season of the Apple TV+ series “Silo,” inspired by Hugh Howey’s book series, is poised to walk a fine line between staying true to the source material and delivering unexpected twists. As fans eagerly await its premiere later this month, they can anticipate that the show will maintain a delicate balance of respecting the original novels while also offering fresh surprises for dedicated fans. Even the series’ lead actor, Common, was advised not to read the books due to significant differences in his character compared to the novels. The first episode of “Silo” Season 2 is scheduled to air on November 15th, with subsequent episodes following every Wednesday until January 17, 2025, exclusively on Apple TV+.

In an interview with ComicBook, Common shared his approach to playing his character. While the series is inspired by the books, it occasionally deviates, as his character, Simms, has a minimal role in them. Initially, he delved into the books for insights, but was advised to put them aside to stay centered on the show’s narrative. Only after wrapping up filming did he revisit the books. This strategy worked well for him, as he didn’t want to be overly influenced by the books’ plotlines, which might differ from the show’s direction. However, he admires Hugh’s work on the novels.

In an interview, co-star Tim Robbins noted that the description of his character in the source novels as “short and portly” differs greatly from his actual height of 6 feet 5 inches.

Silo tells the tale of the final 10,000 inhabitants on earth, living in a mile-deep sanctuary shielding them from the poisonous and lethal world outside. Yet, the origins behind its construction remain unknown, and those who dare to uncover it meet with tragic ends. In this chilling narrative, Rebecca Ferguson portrays Juliette, an engineer, driven by the quest for answers concerning a loved one’s murder. As she delves deeper into the mystery, she unearths secrets far more profound than she ever imagined, leading her to the revelation that deceit might not be as lethal as the truth itself.

Additionally, for Season 2 of the show, we’ll be featuring Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McCrae, Remmie Milner, Clare Perkins, Billy Postlethwaite, Rick Gomez, Caitlin Zoz, Tanya Moodie, and Iain Glen as part of the cast.

In two shakes of a lamb’s tail, Season 2 of “Silo” will make its grand entrance on Apple TV+, starting from the 15th of November this year. From then on, fresh episodes will be unveiled every Wednesday, all the way up to January 17, 2025.
