As a long-time fan of the Alien franchise who has patiently waited for decades to witness a worthy successor to the original masterpiece, I am thrilled by the recent developments surrounding Alien: Romulus. Having watched countless sequels and prequels that failed to live up to my expectations, I must admit that I was initially skeptical about this latest installment. However, Fede Álvarez’s brilliant direction and the captivating performances of Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson have breathed new life into the series.
This year, the movie “Alien: Romulus” successfully rejuvenated the “Alien” franchise, garnering positive responses from both viewers and critics. Whether you missed it in theaters or simply want to relive the heart-pounding journey into terror again, the film will be available on Hulu starting November 21st. With high expectations for this spinoff, as it takes place between the events of “Alien” and “Aliens,” and departs from some of the central lore of the series, 20th Century Studios and director Fede Álvarez took a risk that proved successful. A report from last month suggested that not only will there be a sequel to “Romulus,” but that 20th Century Studios is eager to have Álvarez return for the continuation of the adventure. Currently, “Alien: Romulus” is available digitally and will arrive on Hulu on November 21st, with a Blu-ray and DVD release scheduled for December 3rd.
In the Alien series, spanning two decades, the first four movies focused on Ellen Ripley’s (Sigourney Weaver) relentless struggles against the terrifying xenomorph. Subsequent installments placed the creature in confrontations with another franchise. The Alien vs. Predator films, which finally brought fans the long-anticipated screen clash, did not leave a lasting impression on audiences or critics.
After over three decades, director Ridley Scott revisited the Alien saga with the prequel film Prometheus, although it wasn’t a direct sequel to the 1979 original, it paved the way for future events in the series. Later, Scott directed Alien: Covenant to bridge the gap between that prequel and the initial Alien movie, but unfortunately, neither of these prequels managed to reignite the excitement surrounding this classic sci-fi franchise.

Alvarez’s “Romulus” garnered impressive critical and box-office feedback in recent years, but it didn’t achieve an overwhelming success as some viewers criticized it for being overly reminiscent of its previous installments. However, considering how stagnant the series had become, Alvarez’s magic touch effectively revitalized interest in the series.
20th Century Studios chief, Steve Asbell, hinted recently that a fresh installment is planned to resurrect Álvarez and further explore the storylines of the principal characters.
Currently, we’re brainstorming ideas for a follow-up. Although we haven’t finalized our agreement with Fede yet, it’s on the horizon, and he has an intriguing concept that we’re developing. Asbell shared this news with The Hollywood Reporter. The characters Rain and Andy, portrayed by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson in the original film, were standout performances. These characters have piqued our interest, and I often find myself wondering about their future adventures. We’re certain there will be aliens and terrifying horror scenes. However, what truly captivated me was the development of these two characters, and I can’t wait to see where their story leads.
Keep an eye out for more news regarding the upcoming chapters in the Alien series. The new installment, titled Alien: Romulus, will be available on Hulu starting from November 21st.
