How To Stream Joker: Folie a Deux at Home

As a long-time fan of the Joker and a regular moviegoer who has seen every DC Comics adaptation, I must say that the digital release of “Joker: Folie à Deux” is both exciting and disappointing at the same time. Exciting because I can now watch this highly anticipated sequel from the comfort of my own home, and disappointing because I had hoped to see it on the big screen with fellow fans.

The film ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is now up for digital rental or purchase on platforms such as Prime Video and Apple TV. This highly anticipated sequel to the supervillain premiered in theaters on October 4, and its digital version became available on October 29, only 25 days later. As of now, no information has been disclosed regarding when this movie may become accessible on subscription-based streaming platforms or in physical formats like Blu-ray and DVD.

The film “Folie à Deux” received mixed feedback from both critics and viewers this autumn, and it fell short in ticket sales. This might be one reason why it’s now available for home viewing so soon. It’s common these days for films, even successful ones, to have quick video-on-demand releases. Distributors seem to view the cinema audience and the at-home audience as distinct groups, so they don’t hesitate too long when some viewers just can’t fit a cinema trip into their schedules. The price difference between renting “Folie à Deux” (currently $19.99) and buying it digitally ($24.99) is not significant.

It’s important to note that fans can still catch the Joker sequel at various movie theaters across the U.S. Currently, it appears that the digital release might affect how long the film stays in cinemas, but for now, it’s relatively easy to find a screening. However, as we approach the holiday season and foot traffic increases, the screen time could become more valuable for family-friendly films, which might impact the availability of the Joker sequel.

Folie à Deux certainly isn’t what you’re thinking. In this R-rated adaptation of DC Comics, Joaquin Phoenix portrays Arthur Fleck, a reimagined Joker, while Lady Gaga takes on the role of his partner, Harley Quinn. Set approximately two years after the initial installment, the story unfolds within Arkham State Hospital. The narrative primarily focuses on Arthur’s court trial and his dual roles as patient and inmate. Furthermore, the movie features numerous musical sequences that subtly blend fantasy, reality, and hallucination.

The film, unfortunately, isn’t doing well financially, having fallen short of recouping its budget or generating profits from ticket sales so far. As of November 4, it has grossed a total of $204.7 million globally, but according to different sources, it needs to rake in either $450 million or $375 million just to break even. Critically, the movie hasn’t left a favorable impression on most viewers and reviewers alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has garnered only a 32% positive rating among both verified critics and user-submitted reviews.

If you’re eager to watch it yourself, the movie “Joker: Folie à Deux” can now be rented or bought digitally on various PVOD platforms such as Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. At present, it is also still being screened in cinemas.
