Joker 2 Actor Calls DC Sequel “The Worst Film That Has Ever Been Made”

As a longtime fan of the Joker character and having watched both the original Joker (2018) and its sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, I must admit that my experience with the latter was akin to witnessing a trainwreck in slow motion. The film, which has received widespread criticism, feels like a far cry from the gritty, compelling narrative of its predecessor.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that even those involved with the creation of Joker: Folie a Deux seem to view it as a less-than-stellar film. A prime example is Tim Dillon, who portrayed a guard at Arkham Asylum in Joker 2. This talented comedian, actor, and podcaster has been vocal about his dislike for the sequel, which has underperformed at the box office (earning only $204 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million) and was hastily released onto digital streaming platforms less than a month after its theatrical debut.

Dillon made clear on the Joe Rogan Podcast that he believes “It’s the absolute worst movie ever produced,” rather than simply being “so bad.” He argued that after the success of Joker, there was a backlash against the film due to concerns about its appeal to certain groups and messages it conveyed. In his opinion, the sequel went too far in the opposite direction, with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga performing an excessive amount of tap dancing, resulting in a movie that lacks cohesion and isn’t even enjoyable to watch out of spite – it’s that terrible.

During the filming of Folie á Deux, Dillon explained that the larger group of supporting actors and bystanders found themselves puzzled, as they struggled to understand exactly what director Todd Phillips was aiming for.

In simpler terms, Dillon explained, “We’d often sit together since we were all security personnel at Arkham Asylum. One day, I turned to one of them and asked, ‘What on earth is this noise?’ They replied, ‘This is going to blow up, dude.’ I retorted, ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever…’

Was Joker 2 Just A Bad Joke?

In my analysis of the movie “Joker: Folie á Deux,” I noticed that the sequel seems to express displeasure or skepticism from directors Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix about the success of the original film, “Joker” (2018). The initial movie’s message – that society doesn’t care for an “Arthur Fleck,” but will adore a madman in clown makeup – was strikingly validated by its massive box office earnings and multiple Academy Awards, which reached career milestones for both Phillips and Phoenix. However, the success primarily stemmed from the Batman mythology that only loosely supported the film.

Based on Tim Dillon’s report from the set, the crew felt the same way too.

Joker: Folie á Deux is now streaming on digital.
