Ice Age 6 Movie Is in the Works, So Prepare for an Avalanche of Fun

As a die-hard fan of the Ice Age franchise, I can confidently say that I’ve grown up alongside Manny, Sid, Diego, and the rest of the gang. The news of the sixth installment has me jumping for joy like Scrat chasing that ever-elusive acorn!

The Ice Age movies won’t be going extinct.

At the D23 Brazil event on November 8, it was announced by Disney and 20th Century Animation that they are currently developing the sixth film in their franchise, as reported by various news sources.

Beyond just that reveal, more information about the upcoming sequel has been disclosed as well. It’s confirmed through Deadline that the original voice actors – Ray Romano (Manny), John Leguizamo (Sid), Queen Latifah (Ellie), Denis Leary (Diego), and Simon Pegg (Buck) – are all set to reprise their roles for this film. Production is underway, and it’s scheduled for a theatrical release.

Approximately twenty years have passed since the initial release of the Ice Age movie, which was a joint effort by directors Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha in 2002. The film earned an impressive $383.3M at the worldwide box office. Following this success, four sequels were produced: Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006), Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), and Ice Age: Collision Course (2016). Additionally, a 2022 spin-off titled The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild was released on Disney+.

To Romano, it wasn’t shocking that the franchise thrived; after all, the animated films have everything young children typically enjoy in their entertainment.

In a 2006 conversation with Cinema.com, I expressed that a story needs both a heroic figure such as myself and an entertaining antagonist. Children are captivated by elements of fear and excitement, and they adore characters like Manny who embody the savior role, as well as humorous, smaller characters, such as the possums or Scrat. The funnier and smaller these characters are, the more appealing they become to kids.

Similarly, an actor from Everybody Loves Raymond recognizes the show’s appeal for grown-ups too. As he put it, “The humor needs to be slightly nuanced for parents because they have to cater to both adults and children in their writing. This movie manages to keep everyone entertained by doing just that.

As for him repeating his role as Manny the Mammoth, his confidence grows with each passing day while giving voice to the character.

Romano admitted before the debut of “Ice Age: The Meltdown”, he felt as though he would be let go following every recording session, saying, “I was seriously worried about getting fired.” He wasn’t joking; he believed he wasn’t good enough and panicked. This time, however, he had a different thought: “They must like me, they wouldn’t fire me just to hire someone else to let go.
