Kevin Feige Comments on Blade’s MCU Status (And Fans Will Be Pleased)

As a long-time Marvel fan who has seen more than a few delays in my day, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism when it comes to the Blade movie. On one hand, Mahershala Ali is an outstanding actor and I have no doubt he will bring the Daywalker to life in a way that will make us all thirst for more (pun intended). On the other hand, I’ve seen too many projects get stuck in development hell to not worry about this one.

The anticipated Blade movie by Marvel Studios, boosted by Mahershala Ali’s casting, appeared to be an undeniable success. Regrettably, this promising collaboration has yet to materialize into a film, due to numerous setbacks and production alterations. Fan concerns deepened when the movie was taken off the schedule. However, there’s good news on the horizon: Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed in a recent Omelete interview that Blade is still in their plans for the MCU, and the character will eventually appear.

When inquired about Blade, Feige expressed his admiration for Mahershala’s portrayal and stated that they are wholeheartedly dedicated to bringing this project to life. Put simply, they are ‘all in’ for Blade; they adore the character, and the version of it that Mahershala has brought to life… I can confirm that Blade will indeed join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Committed to Getting it Right

It’s great news that Marvel remains committed to bringing the Blade movie to life, with Mahershala Ali set to star as the character. Contrary to some speculation, the film has not lost its director, as Yann Demange is still on board to helm the project.

Additionally, Mia Goth remains associated with the project and is rumored to portray Lilith in the upcoming film. In a recent interview with Deadline, Goth expressed her thoughts on the project, stating that Marvel seems dedicated to ensuring the movie turns out well. “They do care,” Goth said. “They really do. They want to make an excellent film, and that’s the impression I get from them, which feels reassuring.

Originally planned for a theater release on November 3rd, 2023, Blade looked set to go ahead following the post-credits scene in Eternals. However, there were delays, and the movie was rescheduled for November 7th, 2025. Regrettably, even that date didn’t hold, as Marvel Studios recently took Blade off their 2025 schedule, suggesting it might not hit the big screen before 2026 – a prospect that currently seems uncertain too.

The Return of Blade

The discussion about Blade resurfaced once more following Wesley Snipes’ reprisal of the character in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool and Wolverine. Previously portrayed Marvel film characters were also returning, and it was a delight to witness Snipes re-embodying the daywalker again.

I’m eagerly looking forward to Mahershala Ali’s portrayal of Blade hitting the big screen at last, joining Marvel’s extensive cinematic universe. If it does materialize, you can bet that the collaborations will be thrilling, and perhaps we’ll even lead up to a massive event like Blood Hunt, similar to an Avengers-style spectacle. However, the journey begins with the initial movie, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
