Chris McCausland reveals he was asked to do Strictly before, but was too scared

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for heartwarming stories, I must say that Chris McCausland‘s journey on Strictly Come Dancing is nothing short of inspiring. His courage to step out of his comfort zone and represent not just himself, but an entire community, is truly commendable.

This week on Strictly Come Dancing, Chris McCausland and Diane Buswell performed their unique Couples Choice dance set to “Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)” by John Lennon. During the performance, Chris shared a heartfelt account of his experiences so far.

In a pre-performance chat, Chris disclosed that he had been invited to participate on the show numerous times before, but each time, he was too afraid to take part.

He expressed: “Don’t you have to act sometimes? Even when something seems frightening, what’s the absolute worst that might happen? When I started this, I thought it could turn out badly. Yet here we are. Honestly, I’m amazed at myself too, as everyone else seems to be.

Chris confessed that he had turned down the opportunity to participate in Strictly Come Dancing several times as he admitted to being genuinely frightened by it.

He clarified that it would be somewhat self-centered of him not to act, as he’s fortunate enough to reach a point where he can advocate for others.

“People with disabilities don’t necessarily require inspiration or to be represented on TV, but I believe it is beneficial for everyone else.

Chris conveyed a message through his performance on the show, implying that the potential of individuals with disabilities often exceeds what one might initially assume.

The dance performance by Chris and Diane was highly appreciated by both the crowd and the judges, earning them a collective score of 33 points. This placed them equally at the fifth spot on the scoreboard, sharing the position with Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola.

Craig Revel Horwood expressed his confusion by saying, “I can’t figure out how you’re managing this,” and Motsi Mabuse pointed out that there’s a lot of buzz about Chris beyond the show.

“It’s just this message outside of the show that is so much bigger,” she said.
