X-Men Will Be ”Important” to MCU, Says Kevin Feige (But Not for a While)

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of superhero cinema since the dawn of time (or at least the 90s), I find myself both excited and patiently awaiting the arrival of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having been through the Infinity Saga, the Multiverse Saga, and a brief stint with the Fantastic Four, I’ve learned that good things come to those who wait.

The X-Men will play a crucial part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), though we may need to wait some time before they appear on screen. In an interview with Omelete, Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, shared insights about the MCU and its future projects at Disney D23 Brazil this weekend. Among the updates was a significant revelation concerning the X-Men: their entry into the MCU might not occur until after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Speaking about the preparations for “Avengers: Endgame”, Feige noted that it was all about reaching the climax of our tale, only to begin anew afterwards. In contrast, as we approach “Secret Wars”, we have a clear understanding of the storyline up until that point and beyond. The X-Men play a crucial role in shaping the future.

It seems we won’t see “Avengers: Secret Wars” on the big screen until 2027, which means the X-Men might have to wait a few more years before their turn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, this timeline could change given the unpredictable nature of release schedules.

In my humble opinion as a movie enthusiast, the anticipation for who might grace our screens ahead of the X-Men’s grand entrance has been palpable since the phenomenal success of Deadpool and Wolverine earlier this year. Fans have dreamt about the possibility of these two iconic characters joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, perhaps even featuring in upcoming blockbusters like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. However, recent statements from Deadpool’s charismatic star, Ryan Reynolds, haven’t exactly quenched our thirst for information about their potential roles within the MCU, leaving us hanging on every word for any hints about their future.

“I’m not even being cagey,” he said. “We’ll see what happens there.”

Waiting For the X-Men Might Not Be a Bad Thing

It’s understandable that fans are excited about the prospect of seeing the legendary X-Men team join the MCU, but it might be beneficial for Marvel Studios to take their time with the introduction. The current Multiverse Saga hasn’t reached the heights of the Infinity Saga, and rushing to incorporate the X-Men before everything is properly sorted out could lead to a quick, satisfying reaction from fans, but may not provide the impressive debut that both the heroes and the fans truly deserve. By introducing the team during the anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios can give the long-awaited X-Men the attention they deserve, serving as a cornerstone for the next phase of their on-screen storytelling, which seems like a win-win situation for all parties involved.
