As a dedicated cinephile who’s seen more Batman iterations than I can count on my fingers (and toes), I must say that The Penguin has been a delightful addition to Gotham City’s rogue gallery. The final episode, with its explosive twists and turns, left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting what’s next – but not too eager, mind you; I’ve learned from past experiences that patience is key when it comes to superhero shows!
*Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Penguin episode 8.*
With those explosive final scenes, The Penguin has come to an end with a jaw-dropping episode 8.
In the last episodes of the series featuring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, unexpected turns continued to unfold. Despite Oz Cobb temporarily claiming victory over the city, a foreboding Bat-Signal hinted that his troubles are far from resolved.
Absolutely, the final installment of The Penguin clearly lays the groundwork for The Batman: Part II. This is evident through the appearance of the bat signal at the end and the reference to Sofia Falcone’s sister, who goes by the alias Catwoman (also known as Selina Kyle).
But will The Penguin be back for a season 2? Here’s everything we know so far.
Will there be The Penguin season 2?
At present, we don’t have definite information about a second season of The Penguin, but we certainly can’t dismiss the possibility.
He mentioned that the plan was always for it to be an eight-hour miniseries, but it’s turned out quite successfully, so he thinks if something is successful, audiences often wish to rewatch it.
When it comes to creating a captivating universe, Matt’s genius is truly unparalleled. As part of the creative team, including Lauren LeFranc [showrunner] and Mike Marino [makeup/prosthetic artist], we all recognized the importance of aligning our ideas with Matt’s vision when shaping the appearance of the Penguin.
If Matt decides to make a second season, I’d definitely think about it, absolutely. However, after this experience, I feel I’ve had enough! Initially, I complained about lack of content in the first movie, but now I’m satisfied. I’ve been involved for quite some time, and it was an incredible journey. Yet, it’s demanding to say the least.
According to Showrunner LeFranc, there’s a possibility of a second season, but she mentioned that in order for it to happen, the team must feel like they can surpass what they’ve already done. She shared with The Direct her sentiment: “We need to believe that there’s something more to explore and delve deeper into. I genuinely care about all these characters, even if they are less than admirable individuals.
She stated: “Writing them has been delightful, despite their convoluted, strange, and darkly amusing nature. Frankly, Gotham City is an exciting playground, and I’d cherish continuing to explore it, but it needs to be the appropriate move. We must never engage in anything merely for the sake of doing so.

When could a potential The Penguin season 2 be released?
If The Penguin is granted another season, it’s likely that we’ll have to be patient, with the possible premiere happening sometime in either 2026 or 2027.
At this stage, it’s just a concept we’re working with, and if produced, it would probably take a considerable amount of time, similar to Season 1. Additionally, given the narrative flow, it seems likely that the studio might choose to unveil The Batman: Part II before releasing this series finale of The Penguin, as the ending of this series could serve as an excellent lead-in for the next one.
Initially slated for release, Season 1 encountered quite a journey instead. Production began in September 2021, yet, much like other projects, its shooting schedule was postponed owing to the ongoing labor disputes within Hollywood.
Filming concluded in February 2024, with the show being released in October 2024.
Who could be in the cast of a potential The Penguin season 2?
If the show gets renewed for a second season, it’s likely that several actors from season 1 will reprise their roles. However, there are certain individuals who won’t be returning because they didn’t survive until the end. Here’s your final heads-up about potential spoilers!
Key cast members who could return include:
- Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin
- Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone
- Theo Rossi as Julian Rush
Indeed, several characters didn’t survive until the end of season 1, with Rhenzy Feliz’s character, Victor Aguilar, being one of the most notable. He met a tragic end at the hands of Oz in the season finale.
Michael Zegen’s Alberto Falcone was also killed early on in the season.
In Episode 4, Sofia Falcone brutally massacred a significant portion of her family during a tragic gas leak incident. Additionally, while Francis Cobb, portrayed by Deirdre O’Connell, managed to survive until the end of the series, she was left in a comatose state and confined to a bed for the rest of her life.
In season 2, we could potentially see the appearance of:
- Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/The Batman
- Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Although Pattinson and Kravitz didn’t show up in season 1, there might be a chance that they could make an appearance in season 2.
What could the plot of a potential The Penguin season 2 be?
At present, there’s not much information available concerning the storyline of “The Penguin”, however, it is anticipated that the narrative will continue post-Oz’s conquest of the city, having established himself as its criminal overlord, after his meteoric rise through Gotham’s criminal underworld.
We’d also expect to follow Sofia Falcone as she meets her half-sister, Selina Kyle.
