What you need to know
- The Xbox Game Pass account first teased the addition of Spyro Reignited Trilogy with a not-so-cryptic video on Twitter (X) showing a chest from in the game.
- The official Spyro account helpfully commented with “👀👀👀,” making it fairly obvious what’s being teased.
- The Xbox account then confirmed that yes, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is coming to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Standard, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming on November 12.
- Spyro the Dragon is one of the many franchises added to the Xbox lineup when Microsoft finished acquiring Activision Blizzard King just over a year ago.
As a tech enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the recent addition of Spyro Reignited Trilogy to Xbox Game Pass is a delightful blast from the past. I remember playing those games on my original PlayStation and it’s incredible to see them now available on my Xbox.
It is clear which upcoming Activision Blizzard King game will be added to Microsoft’s gaming subscription platform.
On Monday, the Xbox Game Pass Twitter account posted a video featuring a chest from the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. To make it clearer that this was a teaser, the official Spyro the Dragon account tweeted three eye emojis. Later, the Xbox account confirmed on Xbox Wire that indeed, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be available on Xbox Game Pass on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
You can play the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Standard, or PC Game Pass. Additionally, if you have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, it’s accessible through Xbox Cloud Gaming as well.
As I stand here, I’m marveling at the revamped Spyro Reignited Trilogy, a fresh take on the initial three Spyro games crafted by Insomniac Games for the original PlayStation console. Now, this updated trilogy was masterfully brought to life by Toys for Bob, a creative squad that once operated under Activision Blizzard and is now collaborating with Microsoft for their forthcoming project.
Activision Blizzard joins Xbox Game Pass slowly but steadily
It took a while after Microsoft completed its purchase of Activision Blizzard King in October 2023 for Xbox users to see tangible advantages from the deal.
Apart from Diablo 4, the latest entry in Blizzard Entertainment’s action RPG series, which was added to Xbox Game Pass back in April, a variety of additional games are currently being incorporated into the subscription service at their own pace.
The pace picked up a bit in August with the arrival of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and soon after, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was included. Lately, StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection have been added to PC Game Pass, while Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 debuted on the service from the start.
Although progress has been gradual as Activision Blizzard libraries are being released (with countless other games yet to come), it’s evident that the pace is picking up, with frequent releases of one or two new games for players to eagerly anticipate.
I’m quite eager to find out how the incorporation of the extensive backlog of Call of Duty titles will turn out, and if perhaps some collections of older games might be released in groups.
