Thursday Murder Club star Daniel Mays breaks down excitement for “who’s-who” all-star cast

As a seasoned film enthusiast with a penchant for unraveling cinematic mysteries, I find myself utterly captivated by the stellar cast and tantalizing premise of Netflix’s The Thursday Murder Club. With a roster that includes legends like Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, Ben Kingsley, and the inimitable Daniel Mays, this project promises to be nothing short of a masterclass in acting prowess.

I find it utterly exhilarating to collaborate with such esteemed acting veterans on the Netflix production of The Thursday Murder Club, a truly iconic ensemble that leaves me in awe.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming adaptation of Richard Osman’s charming murder-mystery novel. The film has assembled an illustrious ensemble to breathe life into this beloved story, and I can hardly wait to see their fresh take on it. Fans like me are eagerly looking forward to the experience!

As a die-hard admirer, I’d like to share that the script was personally crafted by Osman in conjunction with Katy Brand. To make this production even more captivating, Chris Columbus, renowned for his work on the initial Harry Potter films, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Home Alone, lends his directorial magic.

In an interview with TopMob magazine, Mays shared his memories of being selected for the thrilling Thursday Murder Club production.

I’m fortunate to have been given this role, as it features an illustrious cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, and Ben Kingsley. On my first day on set, I found myself working alongside the Queen, James Bond, Acorn Antiques star, and Gandhi – quite surreal! It was a real whirlwind of a day.

In the passage, the distinguished individuals mentioned by Mays assume the roles of amateur detectives in the narrative, pursuing an intriguing and risky pastime during their retirement – unraveling murder mysteries.

This team is made up of retired spy Elizabeth (played by Mirren), former labor leader Ronald (Brosnan), ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim (Kingsley), and retired nurse Joyce (Imrie). The specifics about Mays’ role are still unclear, but they will likely play a supportive part.

In earlier productions, TopMob has portrayed several police characters, such as in Magpie Murders, Des, and Ashes to Ashes. Interestingly, he mentioned that due to this, he is often stopped by real-life officers in his daily life.

Once at the airport, I was briefly held up. It turned out the officer and the three individuals ahead of me were undercover, giving me the impression that I might be involved in an unusual operation or investigation at Heathrow Airport.

“He told me, ‘No, we just wanted to say how much we loved Line of Duty!’”
