IT: Welcome to Derry Footage Teases Return of Pennywise

As a die-hard fan of Stephen King and the enigmatic world he weaves, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming “Welcome to Derry” series! Having grown up with the chilling tales of Pennywise the Clown, I’ve eagerly awaited the opportunity to delve deeper into this terrifying town’s history. The fact that this new chapter is set 27 years before the events of the first film makes it even more intriguing!

In 2025, Max plans to publish the sequel of the popular “It” series by famous author Stephen King. Titled “Welcome to Derry,” this chapter will delve into the origins of the terrifying clown character, Pennywise, which takes place 27 years before the events depicted in the initial movie. A sneak peek of what’s to come next year was recently unveiled by Max, showcasing fresh footage from the highly anticipated series.

In the latest scenes, a group of youngsters are seen discovering Derry town, with one of them being dragged underwater in what seems like a lake. A chilling glimpse of a familiar clown-like grin is also shown. Apart from Bill Skarsgård, actors Jovan Adepo (known for films like ‘Babylon’ and ‘The 3 Body Problem’), Taylour Paige (‘Zola’, ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’), Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso have all joined the cast. These newcomers complete the ensemble for this production.

According to the Muschiettis, “This is a book that holds a special place in our hearts, and we felt there were more stories left untold.” They added, “Given its depth of characters and events, we believe we can honor both the book and the fans by revisiting this world once again.

In “Welcome to Derry,” Mike Hanlon’s interlude accounts, derived from his investigations involving interviews with town elders, delve into themes similar to those depicted in the movie such as friendship, grief, and the strength of collective faith. However, this narrative also explores the manipulation of fear as a tool, a topic that resonates with our current times.

The series doesn’t have a fixed release date yet, but it has been confirmed that it will air on HBO and be available for streaming on Max once released. It seems there’s a change in their approach towards content, with major IPs being classified as “Max exclusives.” With the hit show House of Dragons, they are focusing more on enhancing their streaming services.

For many years, a popular cultural phenomenon, the iconic novel of “It” brought together both veteran and contemporary fans when its film adaptation was released in 2017. The movie raked in an astonishing $700 million at box offices worldwide, marking Stephen King’s most successful project to date. In 2019, the sequel, “It Chapter Two,” premiered with varying critic opinions. Regardless, it managed to earn a substantial sum against its $79 million budget, pushing the overall earnings past $1.17 billion.
