This is because he was paid a fixed fee for the series and retained the rights (as per Netflix’s standard contracts with K-drama creators), but no bonuses were given based on the show’s eventual success. However, Dong-hyuk views the second season as an opportunity to make up for the financial aspect of the first season’s success, stating that “working on the second series will also help me compensate for the success of the first one.
However, Dong-hyuk admitted that there’s more narrative to explore and expressed this sentiment to BBC: “I didn’t completely conclude the story.” With a fresh tale and novel characters, he conveyed that the pressure on him is significantly higher. Furthermore, working on this second season has raised additional queries for him as well: “While crafting this series, I was frequently pondering ‘do we humans possess the ability to guide our world away from its current destructive course?’ To be honest, I’m not sure.
