Percy Jackson Confirms Season 2 Casting for One Major Character

As a seasoned gamer and avid reader of fantasy novels, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on Disney+! With Andra Day stepping into the role of Athena, a character central to the story, it’s shaping up to be an epic journey that I simply cannot wait to embark upon.

The role of Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom, from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has been filled by actress Andra Day. It was confirmed at the D23 Expo in Brazil last week by Disney. In a video posted later to social media, Day spoke directly to fans.

Day is thrilled to breathe life into her character and collaborate with this exceptional cast, and here’s a heads up – brace yourselves for an incredible adventure! Keep an eye out for updates on this exciting voyage. It’s currently filming Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Filming started in August and is set to wrap up by January 2025. Given this timeline, Day has probably already been present on set. Her character holds significance as she is the mother of Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries) and develops a friendship with Percy (Walker Scobell), as portrayed in Rick Riordan’s books.

For this series, Day’s casting is the most recent major announcement, following several others. We’ve also discovered that Season 2 will introduce Daniel Diemer as Tyson the Cyclops, Tamara Smart as Thalia Grace, and Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho as the Gray Sisters. Previously confirmed actors include Aryan Simhadri as Grover, Charlie Bushnell as Luke, and Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse. They will reprise their roles in the upcoming season.

Known primarily as a singer and songwriter specializing in R&B and soul, she’s also been garnering acclaim for her acting ventures lately. She kicked off her film career in 2021, captivating audiences in the movie “The United States vs. Billie Holiday“. Her powerful portrayal of Billie Holiday fetched her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture and also landed an Oscar nomination.

The television show “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is based on Rick Riordan’s young adult novel series with the same title. These stories revolve around a 12-year-old boy who learns he’s actually a demigod, the son of Poseidon. As he grapples with his newfound supernatural abilities, he also works to prevent a potential war among the gods. The first season follows the events of “The Lightning Thief,” the initial book in Riordan’s series, and the second season is set to adapt its sequel, “The Sea of Monsters.” In total, Riordan wrote five books in this series, along with 14 more novels in the “Camp Half-Blood Chronicles.

Currently streaming: Season 1 of the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on Disney+. Anticipated premiere for Season 2 is slated for around 2025, though an exact date has yet to be announced. Fans can already access Riordan’s books in print, e-book, or audiobook formats.
