As a devoted fan of intriguing crime dramas and a keen observer of the literary world, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming adaptation of Reverend Richard Coles’s bestselling novel, Murder Before Evensong. Given Coles’s impressive resume – from co-hosting BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live to gracing our screens on QI, Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You?, Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity MasterChef, and even presenting his own documentary Good Grief with Reverend Richard Coles – it’s clear that this man has a knack for captivating audiences across various mediums.
Get ready to dive into your next gripping crime series! It has been officially announced that Acorn TV and Channel 5 will join forces to bring Reverend Richard Coles’ popular novel to life on television.
In 2022, “Murder Before Evensong” saw great success as a bestseller. As reported by Deadline, for approximately two years, Acorn and Sky Studios-supported producer The Lighthouse have been working on developing a TV series adaptation of the book.
It will air on Channel 5 in the UK, while Acorn TV will show it in the US.
It’s anticipated that Coles will take on a role as an executive producer, while it appears that Nick Hicks-Beach, known for his work on Midsomer Murders, may also be involved in the production of this adaptation.
In the absence of an official series summary at this point, the book’s synopsis hints at the following scenario: “When Daniel proposes building a restroom within the church, the tranquil village community is startled by the emergence of divisions, with hidden secrets threatening to disrupt the apparent peace.
It appears that the upcoming series fits perfectly with our lineup of cozy crime dramas. Regarding casting, premiere date, and additional information, we’ll simply need to stay tuned for updates.
Given the success of Coles’ novels, there might be more adaptations based on the original source material, if the series is successful. Notably, Coles has also published “A Death in the Parish” and “Murder at the Monastery,” both featuring Canon Daniel Clement as the main character.
Coles has had plenty of experience in front of television screens. He’s been a part of BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live program, and often appears on shows such as QI, Have I Got News for You, and Would I Lie to You?
Additionally, he’s participated in shows like Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity MasterChef, and also hosted the documentary Good Grief alongside Reverend Richard Coles, which chronicled his personal experiences dealing with grief.
