Jennifer Garner Details Navigating Grief 7 Months After Dad’s Death

As a dedicated follower of Jennifer Garner, I deeply admire her vulnerability and honesty about her grief process following the loss of her father. Her candidness about taking stock of her emotional state and giving herself grace is a testament to her strength and resilience. It’s refreshing to see a public figure like Jennifer, who is often portrayed as positive and cheerful, acknowledge that everyone has their tough days and that it’s okay not to be perfect all the time.

Jennifer Garner is keeping it real when it comes to her grief process.

The 52-year-old woman often reflects openly on her emotional wellbeing, as her father, William “Bill” Garner, passed away in March at the age of 85.

Jennifer expressed on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast Nov. 12 that it’s important to accept our imperfections and acknowledge times when we might not feel our best or be as cheerful. She added, “I show myself a lot of understanding. I think, ‘Well, I couldn’t manage it today. This wasn’t a day where I could fulfill everyone’s expectations.’

When Molly Sims, a good friend of the Alias star, remarked that she is “very optimistic,” she clarified that this isn’t always true for her reasons.

Jen gently reminded Molly, “You’re well aware that I don’t always understand everything about you.” She added, “Given where you are right now, it’s important to find companions who can accept and support you. Look back at all the times when I sought comfort in your home, poured out my feelings because I knew I could be vulnerable with you. That’s not something to underestimate.

How does Jennifer, who has children Violet (age 18), Seraphina (15), and Samuel (12) with her former partner Ben Affleck, manage through challenging times? Here are some strategies she suggests:

She emphasized that she strongly advocates for “exercise as therapy.” In her view, it’s essential to engage in physical activity occasionally to invigorate oneself, and she finds herself in a better mood when she gets her heart pumping.

She also values her group of friends and support system.

She stated that it’s delightful to be among those who share laughter, including those who chuckle at her. She has remarkably exceptional, amazing women surrounding her.

Jennifer first announced her father’s death in a heartfelt April Instagram post.

In her Instagram post on April 1st, she expressed that we were with him as he departed, humming Amazing Grace. It’s uncertain if we assisted him or if our presence was comforting – a question worth pondering. She shared pictures of Bill throughout his life. Although the death of an 85-year-old man who led a healthy and fulfilling life is not a tragedy, she acknowledges that grief can be elusive, lurking in unexpected places at unexpected times.

She went on saying, “He always played around with a playful grin, and created the character of everyone’s supportive father figure – the eternally patient, ever-dedicated girl’s dad. We appreciate his commitment, guidance, and faith.
