As a die-hard gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and impatience upon hearing that The Last of Us Season 2 is set to grace our screens in the spring of 2025. Having played both games numerous times, I’ve grown attached to these characters and their world, so I’m eager to see how HBO brings it all to life once more.
HBO has significantly reduced the gap between the release of The Last of Us Season 2, initially scheduled for some time in 2025. Now, it appears that the show could potentially air earlier than expected!
Casey Bloys, HBO’s top executive, shared with reporters today (through IGN) that The Last of Us Season 2 is scheduled to premiere sometime in the spring of 2025. Although this isn’t a specific launch date, it provides fans with a clearer timeline than the entire year of 2025. Given this timeframe, it’s reasonable to speculate that Season 2 of The Last of Us could start as early as March. If so, it would run from March through April and possibly even into May.

In contrast to Season 1 of “The Last of Us,” which had nine episodes, Season 2 will have fewer, specifically seven. This shorter run for Season 2 may be due to the unique way in which the material from “The Last of Us Part II” is being adapted. Previously, showrunner Craig Mazin indicated that the story depicted in this game might require two full seasons to fully unfold. Consequently, the episode counts for Seasons 2 and 3 will differ slightly, accommodating the time needed to adapt the game appropriately.
That being said, it’s worth stressing that HBO has yet to officially renew The Last of Us for Season 3 just yet. While a renewal is all but guaranteed if Season 2 ends up being anywhere as close as successful as Season 1, HBO has remained dodgy about what the future will hold for TLOU.
In the second season of “The Last of Us”, we’ll once more see Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Pedro Pascal reprising his role as Joel. Joining them are some fresh faces in the series, including Isabella Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, and Catherine O’Hara in an undisclosed role.
