The Bibi Files – TRAILER

As a seasoned political observer who has witnessed the rise and fall of many leaders, I must say that “The Bibi Files” trailer left me utterly astounded. The filmmakers have painstakingly pieced together a gripping narrative about power, corruption, and the lengths one man will go to maintain his grip on it.

Under siege from critics worldwide, even some from within his own government, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces increased scrutiny. The timing couldn’t be worse for him as a new video titled “The Bibi Files” trailer emerges, adding more fuel to the controversy surrounding him.

Hailing from directors Alexis Bloom (“Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes”) and Alex Gibney (“Taxi to the Dark Side”), this documentary delves into the dark world of family corruption at the highest levels of politics, revealing the extreme measures a political leader might take to dodge accountability. It tells the story of an individual relentlessly pursuing his political survival amidst a war-torn region.

The makers of the film received confidential, previously unseen police interrogation videos featuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his family members, closest allies, and benefactors, in relation to a corruption probe. This leaked footage suggests an ongoing trend of expensive gifts exchanged and favors granted in exchange, particularly within media and business sectors. The interrogation clips are combined with historical footage that portrays Netanyahu’s ascension to power and the lasting impact of his nearly 30-year tenure as Prime Minister on the nation of Israel, which has been polarized by his rule.

As a movie buff, I’ve come across a film that weaves together interviews with influential journalists, Israeli politicians, close associates of Netanyahu, and lifelong friends. Their accounts and stories sketch a chilling image of a leader who, in his relentless pursuit to evade justice, has forged alliances with radical right-wing extremists. This obsession with maintaining his position as Prime Minister has led him to make political decisions that have jeopardized Israel’s security and tarnished her reputation as a beacon of democracy in the Middle East.

Initially showcased at the Toronto Film Festival this year despite efforts by the Israeli government to prevent its screenings, the film will be released in UK and Irish cinemas, as well as on demand platforms, starting from the 13th of December 2024.
