As an ardent fan of Outer Banks, I’ve been on this rollercoaster of emotions since the rumors about Rudy Pankow and Madison Bailey started swirling. Frankly, I’ve been through enough drama in my life to know that a little tension on set doesn’t always mean there’s a full-blown feud.
Outer Banks fans believe they’ve hunted down a treasure chest of drama.
Speculation about potential tensions between Rudy Pankow, known for his role as Jackson “JJ” Maybank on Netflix’s series, and Madison Bailey (Kiara Carrera) emerged when some viewers of season four suggested that the onscreen couple, who shared intimate scenes, possibly used stand-ins to film a passionate scene in the finale.
At the 10th episode’s pivotal point, Kiara leaned her head on JJ’s shoulder as they all gathered around a campfire with fellow Pogues such as Sarah Cameron (played by Madelyn Cline), John B Routledge (performed by Chase Stokes), Pope Heyward (portrayed by Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo Anderson (acted by Carlacia Grant). Notably, whenever the camera focused on them, only one of their visages was visible in the shot.
After the final episode aired, some spectators suggested that the edited scenes hinted at potential tension between me and Madison during filming. However, various sources confirm to several media outlets that there’s no truth to this assumption of a feud between us.
One user commented on X on Nov 7th, expressing disbelief: ‘It’s absolutely astonishing!’ They found it unprofessional that Rudy and Madison didn’t film together for their scene and had to use a stunt double instead. Surprisingly, this wasn’t a major action scene; they were only meant to give each other a small hug.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must admit that I’ve rarely witnessed such dedicated efforts to maintain distance among actors. It’s simply extraordinary, almost surreal.
Some people contended that the numerous camera transitions were intentional, considering them as creative decisions. One enthusiast commented, “When we read or hear ‘The camera changes its angle,’ it usually implies a shift in attention or transition, often observed in the realm of media or video production. It generally indicates a change in viewpoint or setting.
Some pointed out that, regardless of its truth, any tension among the cast members would have been left behind since JJ was unexpectedly written out of the series by being killed off during the final episode.
As one user quipped, “LMAO… at least this won’t happen anymore.”
We attempted to contact representatives from Netflix, Rudy, and Madison regarding the accusations, yet have not received a response as of now.
Moreover, neither actor has commented on the speculation surrounding their stunt double or the rumors circulating, but Rudy has previously shielded his real-life partner, Elaine Siemek, whom he began dating in 2021, from online critics who were displeased to learn that he wasn’t romantically linked to Madison off-screen.
In 2021, Rudy posted on Instagram, addressing those spreading negativity and criticism about the person I cherish and our bond, “It’s high time for you all to cease this behavior.
Regarding Madison, who’s been in a relationship with college basketball player Mariah Linney since 2020, she’s comfortable with fans supporting JJ and Kiara, provided they understand that their romantic tale is fabricated.
She informed Entertainment Tonight in 2020 that Madison and Kiara, and Rudy and JJ, are separate individuals. She advocated for maintaining romantic storylines on the show, but when it comes to reality, she is fully supportive.
