As a long-time follower of EastEnders and someone who has seen their fair share of Mitchell drama, I must say that the recent introduction of Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) has certainly added an exciting twist to the storyline. Her feisty demeanor and intricate backstory have made her a character to watch, and I can’t help but be drawn in by the tension she brings to Walford.

EastEnders shares exciting new details about the intriguing arrival, Nicola Mitchell, played by Laura Doddington.

This week on BBC One’s soap opera, they unveiled a spirited new matriarch from the Mitchell family, who arrived in Walford with the intention of rescuing her oldest son, Harry Mitchell (played by Elijah Holloway), from imprisonment.

In yesterday’s broadcast, it was revealed that she had deceived her youngest son Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) by concealing the truth about her whereabouts. Instead of being overseas as she claimed, she had been incarcerated due to a conviction for ABH (assault causing bodily harm). It turned out that she was operating an unscrupulous cosmetic business before her imprisonment.

Regardless of being turned down by her ex-husband, Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian), and being distanced by her sons Harry and Barney, Nicola persisted in staying close to her sons and aimed to win their approval.

On a Wednesday, Nicola appeared at The Arches with an intent to convince Harry to assist her in managing her family affairs. She mentioned their past experience where she helped him escape legal trouble related to his girlfriend Shireen’s disappearance, and he consented.

In due course, Nicola disrupted a discussion regarding the sale of Peggy’s, where both Teddy and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) were involved, with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) also in attendance. Immediately, they displayed their determination towards each other.

Nicola remarked once, “I knew a woman named Sharon; she operated an escort service from a tanning salon.” In response, Sharon playfully said, “Given how common the name Nicholas is, I’ve met quite a few of them.

When Sharon disclosed that Teddy intended to purchase Peggy’s store from Phil, it piqued Nicola’s curiosity. However, just as the conversation deepened, Sharon’s half-brother Zack Hudson (James Farrar) interrupted, behaving suspiciously upon noticing Nicola.

In the divorce proceedings, Nicola scolded Teddy for concealing financial assets. During that meeting, Phil hesitated about the sale and decided against signing any documents. Later on, after both men had left, Sharon brought up an image of Peggy Mitchell (Dame Barbara Windsor) and commented that she was the greatest Mitchell matriarch ever, which was a subtle jab at Nicola.

After encountering some conflict, Teddy and Nicola were involved in a dispute, with Nicola vowing to pursue legal action against Teddy for concealing assets during their divorce process.

As the day progressed, it became apparent to Sharon that Teddy had moved past Nicola. This was noticeable when Zack approached her in the town square.

It came to light that Zack was taken aback upon encountering her once more, and it turned out through their conversation that they had engaged in a romantic involvement years before, when Zack served as her fitness instructor – at a time when she was wedded to Teddy.

Nicola fondly remarked: “My core ain’t been the same since you had a go at it.”

Oh, matron!

Nicola requested that Zack conceal their shared history from Teddy and his boys, and he consented, reminding her that this wasn’t their first such arrangement.

Following Zack’s departure, Nicola was observed watching Teddy and Sharon’s conversation with a hint of envy that was more than just a trace.

At the close of the show, Nicola returned yet again to The Arches to speak with Harry. She raised concerns over his involvement with Penny Branning, considering her father’s profession as a police officer. Simultaneously, she shared some of her own tribulations faced during her time in prison.

When Harry shares his scheme involving Penny to blackmail Jack, Nicola proposes taking action against Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) by using video evidence of him attacking Harry. She guarantees her presence at the police station with him.

Will the Mitchells ruin Jack Branning’s career?
