As a seasoned theater-goer who’s witnessed the magic of the stage for decades, I can confidently say that the upcoming play “Unicorn” is shaping up to be an unmissable event. The reunion of Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan, two powerhouse actors whose chemistry is as palpable off-screen as it is on, is a sight to behold.
Actors Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan, previously seen together in “The Split,” will team up again for a fresh stage production penned by the talented mind behind “Doctor Foster,” Mike Bartlett.
Unicorn is going to present us with Polly Walker and her husband Nick Mangan, a seemingly ideal couple, who find themselves questioning the completeness of their lives even though they are contentedly married, have two kids, and are thriving in their respective professions.
Meeting Kate (portrayed by Erin Doherty from The Crown) could bring the “brightness” or “allure” that might be lacking in this upcoming “bold, humorous, and thought-provoking” play set to debut at the Garrick Theatre on the West End next year.
From Tuesday, 4th February 2025, through Sunday, 26th April 2025, the Unicorn event will have a temporary opening. During this timeframe, approximately 10,000 tickets, each under £30, will be offered for sale.
Walker described the play as a “rare beast” that is “grown-up and unusual and very, very funny”.
My co-star expressed that, given the chance to participate in this remarkable play written by the gifted Mike Bartlett, refusing it would have required a sanity check.
This production is both entertaining, thought-provoking, emotional, and profound. The talented James Macdonald is at the helm, with Erin Doherty and my longtime friend and former on-screen spouse Nicola Walker joining the cast. It’s simply a treasure trove of talent!

Doherty exclaimed: ‘Working alongside Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan is an incredible opportunity for me. Add to that this talented crew and this fantastic script, and I’m absolutely thrilled! I can hardly wait to step into the rehearsal space.’
You can buy tickets right away on the Nimax Theatres’ official site! Preview performances at a discounted rate of £20 are set from 4th to 12th February.
Individuals who need special accommodations might find these performances appealing: The British Sign Language show is scheduled for Friday, 7th March; there’s an audio-described performance on Wednesday, 19th March; and the captioned performance takes place on Saturday, 5th April.
In the upcoming period, Walker and Mangan are set to appear jointly in “The Split: Barcelona,” a show slated for broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer later in 2022.
