Batman’s New Batmobile Makes The Dark Knight’s Tumbler Look Like a Hot Wheel

As a lifelong Batman fan who’s seen more iterations of the Dark Knight than I care to count, let me tell you, DC has outdone themselves with this latest Batmobile design! The Absolute Batmobile is like nothing we’ve ever seen before – it’s a dump truck on steroids, for crying out loud!

Time and again, classic aspects of Batman’s universe continue to captivate us, and among these enduring elements is none other than the Batmobile, a vehicle that has left an indelible mark across generations. This automobile is more than just a means of transportation for the Dark Knight; it’s a symbol deeply ingrained in popular culture. With every fan having their own favorite iteration, any new Batmobile designs unveiled by DC (be it on-screen or on the printed page) are bound to receive intense examination – and that’s exactly what we find ourselves doing today.

Washington D.C. unveiled the newest design for Batman’s Batmobile, making the one from “The Dark Knight Trilogy” appear as if it were a miniature toy car.

In the latest series titled “Absolute Batman,” our hero finds himself in a predicament within DC’s “Absolute Universe” imprint, introduced as part of the revamped comics under the banner of DC’s “All-In.” In issue #2 of “Absolute Batman,” Bruce Wayne, alias Batman, is deceived into a trap by the criminal mastermind known as Black Mask. Tracing clues about the “Party Animals” gang to Mayor Hill’s campaign headquarters, Batman receives a warning video from Black Mask, who alerts him of the impending danger: both the Party Animals and the GCPD encircle the building.

Undercover ally Alfred Pennyworth has been tailing Batman without him knowing and attempts to offer assistance by connecting with him inside the building and arranging an exit strategy. However, Batman doesn’t require the help; he has a prearranged escape plan in place. Instead of exiting through a conventional route, Batman decides to plummet down the elevator shaft towards the basement. A hidden door there leads to what Alfred initially assumes is a sealed compartment – until Bruce clarifies that it’s actually the cabin of his latest and formidable Batmobile!

Absolute Batman’s New Batmobile Revealed

The modified version of Batman’s iconic ride, often referred to as ‘Absolute Batmobile,’ is essentially a heavily fortified truck on steroids. Instead of a standard dump bed, it sports a large, spiked black armor reminiscent of Batman’s cowl and cape. The front tires are adorned with a Bat-insignia-style ram that can plow through a line of cop cars as if they were mere toys. The vehicle also boasts big yellow lights, a trademark feature of past Batmobiles, along with a massive cannon next to the cab and another smaller weapon mounted on the ram bumper.

In the final pages of the comic, we see just one grand unveiling of the colossal Batmobile, and artist Nick Dragotta ensures its immense size is undeniable. The policemen attempting to dodge its path seem minuscule compared to the towering tires alone, and the battering ram at the front is gigantic, capable of engulfing police cars effortlessly. The chaos portrayed in the image leaves no doubt: this latest Batmobile is built for devastating carnage.

…Perhaps we could rephrase it like this: The innovative layout of the latest Absolute Batmobile seems to be influenced by the concept of Absolute Batman, where Bruce Wayne is portrayed as an urban engineer and construction worker. This characterization suggests that he’s not just cleaning up Gotham City’s streets as Batman, but also constructing a new version of it. However, this raises some intriguing queries: for instance, how does Absolute Batman maneuver a heavy-duty hauler through the busy streets of Gotham, and manage to park it discreetly under a skyscraper without attracting attention.

In terms of the “wow factor,” however, it’s definitely a kind of Batmobile we haven’t seen before.

Absolute Batman is on sale at DC.
