Marvel’s Red Hulk Rampages Into a Solo Series Ahead of MCU Debut

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for Marvel characters and a penchant for military strategists turned super-soldiers (thanks to my dad being an ex-Army man), I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming debut of Red Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The collaboration between Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and the dynamic duo of Benjamin Percy and Geoff Shaw in the new Marvel series is a match made in comic book heaven!

In addition to making his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe within “Captain America: Brave New World”, Red Hulk will also spearhead a new Marvel series that aligns with the movie’s release date. Harrison Ford assumes the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, replacing the late William Hurt in the fourth Captain America film. Excited fans have glimpsed Ford as Red Hulk for the first time in the latest trailer of “Captain America: Brave New World”, and when the movie hits screens in February, Red Hulk will also star in a new series penned by Benjamin Percy and illustrated by Geoff Shaw. This dynamic duo previously worked together on the intense “Sabretooth War” in “Wolverine”.

In connection with Marvel’s “One World Under Doom” project, Red Hulk is held captive by Doom within Latveria. The latest Sorcerer Supreme at Marvel has plans to utilize Ross’s military knowledge. The only means for Ross to break free is to activate the Red Hulk and demolish Doom’s realm internally. Enthusiasts eager to follow this tale can explore a prelude by Percy and Shaw soon in Incredible Hulk #19, marking the significant 800th issue of Hulk.

Percy stated, “When I heard about the One World Under Doom scenario, it instantly reminded me of Thunderbolt Ross. Being a man who represents red, white, and blue (with a strong emphasis on RED), he would never stand for a global takeover. Moreover, his extensive background – as a combat soldier, a military strategist, and essentially a human time bomb – makes him a likely target for Doom before any action is taken.

“So I proposed a story in which Ross would be kidnapped by Doom and forced into a ‘Think Tank’ prison in which he would test out various war-time scenarios. That’s where we begin — in a book that does not give you a second to breathe. It moves and moves and moves with constant action and tension. Geoff Shaw is a brilliant and brutal artist who I worked with on the Wolverine/Ghost Rider crossover: Weapons of Vengeance. We planned this not just as an action showpiece, but as a war book. Get ready for a Hulk-sized assault on the senses.”

As a diehard Marvel fan, there’s no doubt that Hulk has been my all-time favorite character. Stepping into the world irradiated with gamma energy, playing this role has been nothing short of a lifelong dream for me. To top it off, they’ve thrown in Doctor Doom – the epitome of villainy! From an artistic standpoint, it’s more than I could ask for; it’s a creative feast. And let me tell you, we’re about to blow your minds with our performance that’ll make you kick off those red socks in surprise!
