As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for Pokemon, I must admit that Build-A-Bear‘s latest addition to their collection has me utterly smitten! The Riolu bundle is not just a plushie, but a piece of nostalgia wrapped in a Premier Ball hoodie. And who can resist the charm of Lucario, one of the most popular Pokemon in the franchise?
Build-A-Bear Workshop is expanding its Pokemon lineup once more, and this time they’ve chosen to include Riolu, a much-loved character from the franchise! You can get your hands on this Fighting-type Pokemon as part of a special bundle that comes with a plush version of Riolu, a hoodie modeled after a Premier Ball, and a 5-in-1 sound device filled with various voice clips. This exclusive set is now available on Build-A-Bear’s official website for $57. If you’re eager to order the bundle, simply click here!
For people not acquainted with Riolu, it made its initial appearance in ‘Pokemon Diamond and Pearl’. Although Riolu may not be as well-known as many other Pokemon, it does transform into Lucario. Since its debut, Lucario has grown to become one of the most beloved characters in the franchise and has even been featured as a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series. Notably, Riolu played a significant role in ‘Pokemon Journeys: The Series’, where it was part of Ash Ketchum’s team, eventually evolving into Lucario and helping Ash achieve the title of world champion. Given its history and popularity among Pokemon fans, Riolu seems like an ideal candidate for a Build-A-Bear creation!
In this scenario, Riolu makes its appearance as Build-A-Bear hosts a Pokemon event on their website. A variety of Pokemon sets are now offered at reduced prices, allowing fans to acquire them at a more affordable price range. For instance, Eevee’s price has been decreased from $70 to $63, while several others like Pikachu, Grookey, and Teddiursa have seen a 50% discount. Unfortunately, Riolu and the recently released Cubone are not included in these reductions; fans eager for a deal on those two will have to be patient. However, all other available sets have experienced some sort of price reduction, making it an ideal moment for those who have been waiting to purchase a Pokemon plushie.

As 2024 draws to a close, it appears that Riolu could be the last Pokemon design for Build-A-Bear this year. We’re unsure of what 2025 holds, but there’s a chance we might see designs inspired by the upcoming Pokemon game. Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on Nintendo Switch next year, has yet to reveal an exact launch date. This game will take players back to the Kalos region from Pokemon X and Y, a region that currently lacks some popular Pokemon from that generation, such as Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, in the Build-A-Bear collection.
