Dalgliesh confirms season 3 air date for two-part launch on Channel 5

As a seasoned aficionado of crime dramas, steeped in the annals of detective fiction for the better part of my life, I can hardly contain my excitement as Dalgliesh returns to our screens once more. The prospect of six tantalizing episodes, each delving into a new novel from PD James’s esteemed series, is almost too much to bear.

Dalgliesh is set to come back on Channel 5 with a two-part series towards the start of next month.

Each of these two episodes is scheduled to broadcast at 9:00 PM on the 5th and 6th of December, respectively. In the coming weeks, it’s anticipated that additional episodes will follow a similar format, with Bertie Carvel reprising his role as the detective in solving further mysteries.

Similar to the last two seasons, the upcoming season will comprise a total of six episodes. Each pair of episodes will delve into a distinct novel from PD James’s series of books.

The three books being adapted this time around are Death in Holy Orders, Cover Her Face and Devices and Desires, each of which will put Dalgliesh into some very tricky situations.

In the initial scenario, he journeys to a secluded monastery perched above a stormy lake where a corpse has been horrifically slain.

In the meantime, Devices and Desires has him dispatched on an immediate assignment to explore a dangerous terrorist scheme targeting a coastal nuclear power plant in Kent – leading him swiftly into a tangled and emotionally intense pursuit of a notorious serial killer.

Additionally, joining Carvel is his coworker Carlyss Peer, along with Kate Miskin, and Alistair Brammer portraying DS Daniel Tarrant.

In addition, a remarkable ensemble of actors has been gathered for the series, featuring stars such as Adam James (“Mr. Bates vs The Post Office”), Richard Lintern (“Silent Witness”), Ellora Torchia (“The Gold”) among others.

Fans of the widely-watched crime show have been waiting since last May (2023) for a new season, which is over 18 months ago. Here’s to hoping it will be worth the patience!
