As a seasoned movie-goer who has braved countless Christmas films over the years, I must say that Netflix’s latest offering, “Hot Frosty,” is nothing short of a festive triumph! Having witnessed my fair share of snowmen coming to life (and let’s be honest, it’s never as good as in Rankin/Bass specials), I can confidently assert that this film has managed to breathe new life into the genre.
This year, Netflix is offering a large selection of original Christmas movies, and the rollout began last week with the premiere of “Meet Me Next Christmas“. The momentum continued on Wednesday as Netflix unveiled what could very well be its most eccentric holiday movie ever, and it might even become one of their most-watched in this genre. The movie at hand is “Hot Frosty“, a title that accurately describes the film’s content.
On Wednesday, the film titled “Enchanted Frostman” premiered, and it features Lacey Chabert, known as the reigning queen of Hallmark Christmas movies, portraying a widow grieving over her late husband’s death. As she attempts to start anew, she unintentionally brings a snowman to life, who turns out to be a charming and delightful man (portrayed by Dustin Milligan from “Schitt’s Creek”). Besides Chabert, the film boasts additional Hallmark holiday talent on Netflix, as it was penned by Russell Hainline, the writer of “The Santa Summit.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I must say that “Hot Frosty” seems like an exhilarating blend of classic Hallmark romance and the quirky Christmas shenanigans we adored in ’90s movies – a perfect recipe for a wild holiday adventure! It appears that Netflix users have been yearning for such a film, as the buzz surrounding it demonstrates an overwhelming enthusiasm.
On Wednesday, “Hot Frosty” made its premiere and astonishingly claimed the top position among all Netflix movies in the U.S. within a single day. The fresh film surpassed recent favorites such as “Focus”, “The Lost City”, and “Meet Me Next Christmas” to secure the coveted first place on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies chart. It seems likely that it will maintain this position for the coming week, until another unexpected holiday movie captures attention.

During this fortnight, right smack in mid-November, Netflix is unveiling its most extravagant Christmas movies one after the other. Coming up next week, following the premiere of “Hot Frosty”, “The Merry Gentlemen” will debut on Netflix.
In a twist reminiscent of “Magic Mike,” the film “The Merry Gentlemen” unfolds as a struggling small-town theater transforms into a Christmas-themed male revue to rake in the necessary funds to prevent its closure. The movie centers around a group of male dancers stripping off their shirts for a noble purpose, with Chad Michael Murray gracing the screen in this heartwarming tale.
2020 appears set to make this holiday season particularly unforgettable for the Netflix team, and their new comedy special “Hot Frosty” is kick-starting it with plenty of laughs.
