Star Wars: Andor Showrunner Teases Season 2 Delivers the Origins of Iconic Location

As a seasoned Star Wars gamer with over three decades of galactic adventures under my belt, I can confidently say that the return of Andor to Yavin IV is not just a trip down memory lane, but a promise of fresh insights into the making of an iconic location. Tony Gilroy’s assurance that we’ll delve into Yavin like never before has me buzzing with anticipation, much like an X-Wing on full throttle.

In April of next year, the second season of the Star Wars series “Andor” (formerly known as simply “Andor“) will debut on Disney+. This highly anticipated continuation won’t just continue Cassian Andor’s tale but also transport viewers to a legendary Star Wars locale: Yavin IV. As shared with Empire, showrunner Tony Gilroy has revealed that the series will revisit this location and explore its origins in a manner never before seen.

Gilroy mentioned, “We’re headed for Yavin, aren’t we?” He then continued, “That’s where our narrative unfolds. We plan to approach Yavin in a unique manner unlike anyone else.

The second installment of Andor heading towards Yavin is quite significant for several reasons. Star Wars enthusiasts are aware that Yavin is the site of the Rebel base from the initial Star Wars film, A New Hope, where the Battle of Yavin took place, ultimately resulting in the Death Star’s destruction. Being a crucial and significant location within the broader Star Wars narrative, it has not been extensively explored.

In his latest remarks, Gilroy hinted that Season 2 of Andor will revisit Yavin, a point he made earlier in 2022. He mentioned then that the series would indeed travel to Yavin, but also suggested there would be other destinations the show would explore as well.

Gilroy stated, “We’re heading to Yavin first. After that, we may find ourselves in locations where we’ll ultimately have to make our way back to the origin.

Regarding additional elements of Andor‘s second season, it’s been disclosed that Ben Mendelsohn’s character Director Orson Krennic will reappear (despite Mendelsohn previously stating he wouldn’t). In the upcoming season, Krennic will serve as a foe to Lt. Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) from the Imperial Security Bureau. As Season 2 resumes with Andor still at large and Krennic on the scene, it’s probable that viewers will witness confrontations between Dedra and Krennic. However, the specifics of their potential encounters remain to be seen and can only be revealed by tuning in.

Mendelsohn commented, ‘If they disagreed, I found it endearing.’ He went on to say, ‘I’d say Dedra and Krennic are not evenly matched. In the grand scheme of things, they’re all subordinates to Krennic.’

He remarked, “Everyone is moving towards a single destination. If you express your thoughts openly within the Empire, there may be varying viewpoints.
