ITV renews After the Flood for second season with Peaky Blinders star after cliffhanger ending

As a movie enthusiast with a penchant for gripping dramas, I am absolutely elated to hear that After the Flood is returning for another season! Having spent countless hours binge-watching detective series, I can confidently say that Sophie Rundle’s portrayal of PC Jo Marshall was nothing short of captivating.

Following its debut at the beginning of the year, the ITV drama “After the Flood” has now been formally confirmed for a six-episode second season, with lead actress Sophie Rundle set to reprise her role.

In the initial series, Rundle portrayed PC Jo Marshall, a law enforcer who was investigating the perplexing death of an individual discovered inside a flooded elevator in a town that had suffered a catastrophic flood.

Upon its comeback, Rundle will be accompanied by a group of familiar faces: Philip Glenister, Lorraine Ashbourne, Nicholas Gleaves, and Matt Stokoe reprise their roles.

In the new season, produced by Quay Street Productions, we find Detective Jo Marshall, now promoted, engaged in an intriguing murder case.

Meanwhile, in Waterside, tension escalates due to the growing danger of moorland blazes and the potential for more flooding. Intriguingly, a corpse is unearthed under peculiar conditions.

In her pursuit to apprehend the murderer, Jo finds herself at odds with sinister elements hidden within the community. This investigation will lead her down a deeply personal path, one where she must work covertly to uncover the long-standing corruption that has tainted the town’s police department and potentially her own family for many years.

I’m absolutely delighted to rejoin the cast of After the Flood for another season, working alongside the exceptional crew at Quay Street Productions.

I’m eagerly anticipating the start, as I’m curious to discover the upcoming enigma that Jo, now an official detective, will unravel.

Simultaneously, ITV’s Drama commissioner Huw Kennair Jones expressed delight: “We are thrilled that the audience on ITV1 and ITVX enjoyed the exceptional first series of After The Flood, and we can’t wait to find out what happens next for Jo, Molly, Pat, and the inhabitants of Waterside.

Featuring an exceptional ensemble and guided by the skilled team at Quay Street under the leadership of Nicola Shindler, Richard Fee, and Mick Ford, it seems that the second series is set to offer a captivating enigma that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats, questioning the outcome until the final moments.

Filming is expected to commence next year in and around Greater Manchester and Derbyshire.
