Why Mike Tyson Slapped Jake Paul Ahead of Netflix Boxing Match

As a seasoned boxing enthusiast and someone who has witnessed the golden era of the sport, I find myself intrigued by the upcoming bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. The incident during the weigh-in certainly added an unexpected twist to what was already shaping up to be an interesting spectacle.

Mike Tyson is ready to go toe-to-toe with Jake Paul.

To clarify, the boxing icon explained that the reason he struck the YouTuber across the face during their weigh-in prior to their November 15th fight (which was broadcasted live on Netflix) was due to Jake accidentally stepping on his foot.

Tyson shared with the New York Post on Nov. 14, just after the occurrence, that at the time, he was barefooted while the other individual was wearing shoes. He asserted that due to his actions, he stepped on Tyson’s toe, and given his behavior, Tyson suspected it might have been intentional. Initially, Tyson hoped it was an accident, but now he thinks it could have been deliberate.

The 58-year-old added that he was “in a lot of pain” during the confrontation, so he “had to reciprocate.”

However, Paul seemed unfazed by the attack since he playfully dismissed it, claiming, “I didn’t even notice it.

The 27-year-old went on, characterizing him as a fiery, diminutive figure. He playfully jabbed at Mike Tyson, saying he found his remark amusing.

However, he did consider Tyson’s stunt to be a “personal” attack.

“It’s personal now,” Paul yelled during the weigh-in. “He must die.”

Paul’s mother Pam Stepnick also had heated words for Tyson following the slap.

In a video on Instagram Stories, a woman, who is the mother of YouTube-turned-wrestler Logan Paul, aged 29, was overheard using a derogatory term to address Tyson.

In nearly twenty years, Tyson will be stepping into the ring for his initial professional fight again. He hung up his gloves in boxing back in 2005, but he did participate in an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.

During the weight check, Tyson (previously a global heavyweight title holder) tipped the scales at 103 kg. At the same time, Paul was measured at 103.5 kg.
