Original Metal Gear Solid Games Just Got a Major Upgrade

As a long-time fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and excitement with this latest update to Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1. Growing up, I remember playing these games on my PlayStation, marveling at their innovative gameplay, captivating storylines, and iconic characters.

The classic Metal Gear Solid games, specifically Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, have received a significant enhancement due to the latest update for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 by Konami. Players who possess the re-issued collection might not be aware of what this new update entails.

Here you’ll find all the details of the recent update, but the standout feature is the significant visual enhancement that both games have received for the first time, courtesy of the latest collection update.

The original Metal Gear Solid games, including Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, aren’t known for their visual appeal. To address this, Konami is remaking the third game, and it seems likely that they will also remake its two predecessors. However, each now looks improved due to an update called “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1,” which offers 4K support. Regrettably, this 4K support does not apply to the original Metal Gear Solid. It’s unclear why this is, and there’s currently no indication that this will change in a future update.

These versions of these games are currently the clearest and most authentic ones, significantly outdoing what the 2011 HD collections provided. However, when the remake of the third game is released, likely next year, it will offer a visually superior experience. Yet, it won’t provide the genuine original experience either.

The collection “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1” is now accessible on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
