The Boys Season 5 Gets Major Filming Update (And It Starts Really Soon)

As a hardcore fan of The Boys who has been along for this wild, rollercoaster ride since its debut, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as we gear up for the final chapter. The wait is always the hardest part, but knowing that production is about to start makes it a bit more bearable. Two years might seem like an eternity, but hey, at least it’s not another Game of Thrones-style cliffhanger ending that leaves us waiting for years (and still debating about who should sit on the Iron Throne).

The anticipated finale of Amazon Prime Video’s sensational superhero series “The Boys” is about to start production very soon. In fact, the creator of the show, Eric Kripke, has shared that the fifth and final season will begin filming just a week from now, as stated in a recent interview with Collider.

The announcement arrives when feelings are intensely heightened for the creative team responsible for the successful television series. As Kripke stated, “I’m lucky that I can delay my realization for a considerable time due to my current workload.” He continued, “The sheer volume of tasks at hand means it’s so busy that I think around mid-season, it will suddenly strike me, and strike me deeply. I’ve been consciously avoiding it. It hasn’t fully registered yet. That will be challenging.

Though the beginning of filming has been set, it’s important for fans to be patient as the official debut is still some time away. Actor Karl Urban hinted on Instagram that we might need to wait around two years, implying a possible premiere in summer 2026.

It’s intriguing that the cast generally doesn’t know the exact ends for their characters. Kripke has shared only broad emotional journeys with the actors, as he told Collider, “We’ve advanced far enough that I can outline the character’s overall emotional arcs, but these are the emotional arcs, so the actors can begin working on their character’s journey and some of the unexpected twists and turns. To be honest, some aspects we’re still figuring out, but we have a good idea where they all end up, emotionally.

The roster for the final season is growing, with Daveed Diggs stepping on board as a regular in an unspecified part. Mason Dye takes up the character of Bombsight, who was hinted at in season 4 as a star of Vought in the 1950s. Jensen Ackles returns to his role as Soldier Boy as a series regular, while the main cast including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and Erin Moriarty will all reappear in their respective roles.

The last eight episodes unfold after the climactic events of season 4’s finale, where Homelander managed to exert significant influence over the U.S. government. Creator Kripke hinted that the final season will resemble our show’s interpretation of an apocalypse, stating that “Homelander achieves everything he has long desired: reshaping America to suit his likeness and caprices.

If you’re a fan looking for more content right now, it’s anticipated that the second season of “The Boys” spin-off series, titled “Gen V,” will air in 2025, as per the updates from Amazon MGM Studios’ head of television, Vernon Sanders.
